Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Announcement for management level employees being surplused coming today and Monday. Full time employees being targeted next!

This IS going to happen. T wants to structure itself just like Apple in the sense of employing 90% of its staff as part time. They are working around the system and going to stores asking for reps to voluntarily step down from full-time to part-time. Of course no RSC wants to volunteer, why would anyone financially want to do this and lose benefits of a full-time employee. The day will come where they don't ask anymore. This is SOON. This was experienced first hand at my store. Hiring manager talking to different reps of all tenure, 15 year reps down to 2 month into the job reps. He was there along with our DOS. (SE MARKET) Our jobs are being automated folks and T is cutting back big time. Don't let's this hit you hard and think your job is secure because of the union...retail is dying and extinction is near. Look at some of the new job titles T is hiring and read the description. HOURLY EMPLOYEES only coming soon. Commission will be going away and soon we are going to be the next Apple Store with customer service only reps making 30-40 grand a year part time, no commission structure, assisting customers with their emails and applications. Smartcheck tablet alone automated thousands of people's jobs. We are suppose to have a "I can help you with that" attitude, more like please hold on for however long and let me call RST in Jamaica cause we have no power whatsoever to do anything in the stores anymore attitude.

Part time employees do/ will get benefits. They'll have a higher premium- but there are part time benefits.

Maybe the company should come out publicly in favor of medicare for everyone, that would solve one big problem.

If the pay was $5 per hour and benefits cost 25 cents, the corporate management would still complain and want to make cuts.

For those griping about insurance look at the company copay. It's a fortune. Insurance costs go up 10% a year. Company won't absorb that. U pay more. It's everywhere kit an art specific fault or problem. Read and know the industry before you whine

Not seeing the benefit of revesting new employees into PT roles, $3000+ for a new employee to start even with pt benefits. I think this is just prep when stores consolidte into one central location. I for one will not go to PT, my health ins already went up for no apparent reason given the choices we had. I did reach out to the union with this info, though I am in the SE market but haven't heard of this.

I have worked for this company for over 14 years. I am current part time. If you need benefits, forget about it, they are 400.00 a month. This years income went down by 10,000. I was making 49,000 with minimal hours. Now, I have gone down and expected to do more. I LOVED working for AT&T now I work for AT&T. Who would have known that a company I was proud to say I worked for turned into junk. Thankfully we have the warning signs. Our assistant managers had no warning and neither did some of the managers being fired. Don't worry they will bring the assistant managers that they didn't fire in as a floater managers. Then they will be fired as well. Next level 1 and then level 2 stores. Start fixing your resume and don't wait to be next.

Your union won't save your jobs when they sell your stores to local dealers. Why do you think you guys are all grouped together as "retail". None of the local dealers will acknowledge your union & if you want a job expect a huge pay cut. Time to start looking elsewhere for a job

This is so stressful, I have followed the job twice. I am single and over 50 so I relocated for the income and benefits, damn AT&T.

Just because you'd be fine making 40k doesn't mean we are. Plus your medical etc would be higher and you receive less in tuition assistance plus other benefits from company

That's going to be interesting as union is incurrent talks with their contract for one of their biggest. While I agree retail is going down it won't be completely removed. You still have plenty of old people that don't know how to do things. They can't just terminate you either, unless they surplus the role, it will be base on senrioty.

Not sure I'd complain about a part time job making 40 grand a year.

Part-time means you will still work 40 hours just without the benefits. The way they cut out commission already is sad because it's a $15,000 difference for me.

What benefits are different from a full timer vs a part timer? They already stopped doing pensions for new employees.
