Any ideas if the surplus includes West Texas or central Texas areas?

Op here - i have no #'s on what will be let go. I had heard in December overall 20-30% reduction. This is being driven in part by the former Wittrock Care organization being folded into EG.

Prior to a surpluss there is a 2-3 minute all hands call by an AVP or VP in your business group reading a script that there will be a surpluss action upcoming and everyone on the call is potentially effected. These are usually held 3 weeks prior to the actual layoff date.

Curious how many people think that age discrimination is systemic at AT&T. Seems like they selectively use spans of control and surplus actions to target people. Sure they are more expensive but isn't it illegal?

@bnh, EG is the Entertainment Group, under John Stankey.

@OP, any idea of what levels will be impacted the most? (1,2,3?)

Take the package and relax for 60 days while you look outside for a job that treats you better. Sad to watch them dismantle what took so long to build.

Yes - Monday will be the day - fits the 60 day timeline. Take the severance and find a better career - This company is going full automation customers be damned. Stephenson is on way out - Stankey will be taking his place soon. Customer experience?... still a focus. ... unless it costs money.. then automate it or scrap it. Poor vision on the companies part - Yes...things are changing but we are not leading - moving COR to authorized retail... yes it may be cheaper but just like IBM... selling off your divisions to make a short term dollar isn't smart in the long run. Look @ IBM - stock price is up.. but revenue is down and the actual company is shrinking plus not to mention all the offshoring. Run away while the severance package is good. There are other places to work or start your own business. This company is dying a slow death.

Oh and for the townhall, keyword is Agile. Be Agile, like take on more work after we cut 25% of your peers and don't give you the tools you need to truly integrate Mobility, Network Care, HS and DTv. I like Stankey but this is bush league to do this prior to announcements. I think we have earnings announcements too for 4th quarter. will be a good day. hoping bonus is at least 90% this year.

it's not like i'm going out on a limb to say monday, that's 60 days exactly from 3/31 (Friday) I. Just I had this date told to me by two different managers from entirely different leadership chains.

I figure time line will be supervisors will have to take a class or LSO on Thurs/Fri and be told to watch email on Sunday for impact notifications. The names are decided at this point. L3 likely know. Just a waiting game now.

I figure Friday and Monday the slaughter begins. ATT announced it is investing $100M in the Dallas downtown campus so the surplus layoffs fits right in the picture. Townhall tomorrow to rub some salt in the wounds that are coming.
