They make us come in early then go back and close the store. The VP, DM, GM all go home at 4. We work 13 hours the day of event. This company doesn't get it.

Kickoffs have always been and will always be nothing but an excuse for the suits to get together and try to jam their koolaid down frontline throats with their stupid plastic clappers and idiotic giant head posters. The amount of money dumped on things like kickoffs, hall of fame/rockstar- just another one of the many fatal flaws in the"leadership"of this sinking ship
We all once had a nice hot breakfast at our kickoff one year a long time ago. That is all I remember from that get together.

I have no respect for people who seek nothing but status in this b.s. hyper-capitalist society we have created. There are no real values... just status seekers. If you look down on your fellow man, than have you really "made something better of yourself"? Not in my view. Why are you better? What have you really done to make the world a better place?
For what it's worth, I did not write "Doing long hours", and I don't work in Verizon retail. But since you want to be petty, you did write..... "I stated in Verizon retail while going to college" so I guess you aren't so smart either. Or maybe you just made a mistake. Nobody's perfect.
I miss kickoff . When I worked in WBV we stayed overnight at the G--lord National and one year Hilton Baltimore it was high energy and fun crazy themes and signs ....
I moved to another region and kickoff was a boring video / town hall meeting .
@1rjq...your analysis of retail is fairly accurate , as ive gotten older in the channel i have noticed millenials not having the drive i have still to make any commission, good for them thats fine , yes the image a retail reps has is lowely which i dont care about , a title doesnt pay a mortgage what does is pulling down over 80k annually in a retail job. I have a degree and yes i could have gotten a masters through vzw because as you said the benefits are great. Im an open book when snarky customers who are suprised i speak with intelligence offer a job making real money at 45k to start , i have literally laughed at them. Retail isnt for everyone but i actually like it , different everyday , fairly fun and long hours? I work 8 a day 40 a week , i mean stores are only open from 10-8 . Yes every store does have its share of idiots that are surprisingly still employed in my eyes but as you said that's retail. If i had to do the same thing day in and out or sit in a cubicle i dont think i could handle that . Overall though with the amazing benefits vzw has the grass isnt greener , i have seen at least a dozen people try to come back to vzw some did some got denied . The went and got "Real" jobs with impressive sounding titles.

@1iyl - I stated in Verizon retail while going to college. Was great experience while I was young. But when I became older, I was motivated to get out of retail because customers are jerks, my co workers were either young, immature kids or older bone heads that would never amount to anything in life and the retail hours burned me out. Anyone complaining about not enough time with their family or working long hours...well that's retail. And if you don't like it move to corporate like I did. SIMPLE! Or quit.
And yes, in the Verizon food chain, retail employees are at the bottom I'm sorry to say that's just the way it is.
"Doing long hours" as you say in your poor grammar is not enough to get "respect" as you also say. You have to be good at what you do, and stand out from the crowd to get "respect". It takes more effort than just working long hours. By the way, Verizon will pay for college. A degree also opens doors to getting out of retail.
Verizon provided me with opportunities to get past retail, get past being a retail grunt and making something better of myself.
If you want to stay in retail that's fine, but know this: retail is a low skill job, retail is always an entry level position in any industry, retail almost always demands having a flexible schedule.
So stop crying about how hard it is or how unfairly your treated and you want respect or how everyone gets to go home after the kick off but I have to go back to my store and work "bell to bell" or whatever.
You want to be treated better, then get an education, get noticed and move up or find another career. Oh and by the way, show me another retail job that pays this well and offers the kind of benefits Verizon offers. You think your going to get that at Target or Home Depot? NOPE!
Listen, i work retail have since 03 , it isnt backbreaking labor , its smiling taking care of your customer and selling. Key word is selling, its is a sales job no matter what way you cut it and if you cant hit metrics you will not make any money compared to those that do. The most diffiicult part of job is to give the curstomers a great experience while actually selling them something, reps arent clerks , well some are and they s--- and quit or get pip out but any performing rep knows that the job is super easy , its air conditioned in the summer heated in the winter we wear jeans and sneakers and companny paid for uniforms . EASY! Sure you may work a bit longer at xmas time and It may be difficult to schedule nights and weekends but thats it . ....on the other hand managment is a completely diff animal, i would never want to do that , too much bs. Everyone has there own experiences etc but i think its a great company to work for , if i get let go so be it but until they kick me out ill still cash my checks.
I don't think people who work in retail are lesser humans or "grunts" or whatever. Everyone who goes to work every day and does a job for long hours deserves our respect. Your disdain and contempt for your fellow worker says a lot about you. As do your "simple" answers.
@rwd - That's the nature of retail sales. If you don't like it, get out of retail. Simple.

I believe it is a company-wide mentality, from the forced OT in Union Wireline to the now-fired go90 creators sleeping in the building for days. VZ seems to like people working for insane hours even though all research shows workers are performing at their best under these conditions.
People do better, have less accidents, and are physically healthier/live longer with a good work/life balance. Unfortunately, VZ does not seem to view employees as Human Beings; rather they are units on some chart.
No they get it. They just don't care. Store employees are grunts. Always have been, always will.
Well what do you expect. They all went to T-Mobile and Sprint to see if they could get a new job.
