What is amazing is how clearly that economic strategy has completely failed and yet the corporate shills bring it up every year and the media pretends it is a new and possibly useful idea.
Fox news has convinced far too many middle class Americans that the path to prosperity is tax cuts for big corporations and the kind of people who run them.
Yeah, let's cut T's and Stephenson's taxes down to nothing - surely THEN they'll stop laying off front line employees!

Trickle down economics has never, ever worked, it is a ridiculous idea presented as a economic theory.
Corporate taxes are a fraction of what they were when this country prospered economically, cutting corporate taxes just makes the 1% richer.
A well-employed middle class is what it takes to improve the economy, otherwise who buys the goods? The spending of the very rich does nothing for the economy, they buy diamonds and jets, not tires, lawn mowers and paint.

None of this would have any bearing on employment - lower tax rates will only return more money to investors and leave individual tax payers to pick up that slack. Companies will always spend capital $$ as needed, any extra cash saved from lower taxes goes into exec pockets.

As for enforcing immigration laws that has little to nothing to do with jobs at T or like companies.
No a union would not change a thing. What would help is to reduce corporate tax rates to be among the lowest in the world, get rid of many tariffs, and enforce immigration laws.
A union should not be just a dues collection machine. Too often the union officials start to feel closer to management than to the people who pay their salary.
Also IT workers tend to think they are special as individuals and ignore the fact that such thinking lets T management screw them over individually.
Think about H-1B visa problem, the only pressure on law makers comes from the big corporations who push for more, nobody is lobbying against the program and for keeping U.S. jobs.
T has the CWA, but the union is a joke. They take your money every month, but don't really help the employees. If a manager wants to fire an employee, all the union stewards do is verify the paperwork is correct, and agree to whatever management is going to do.
Sure, they got a new contract for Internet Services workers, with the promise of a pay increase over 3 years. But the reality is that nobody may see that pay increase, as the company keeps closing centers, and surplussing employees.

Maybe, study yourself on the history of labor in America, then come back. One thing that would help would be an end to modern day indentured servitude, aka H1B immigration visas.
