Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

How many jobs= if merger fails?

If merger deal fails, AT&T would pay Big, AT&T would pay Time Warner $500 million for its time and expenses, and $1.73 billion, for aggregate exposure

@1uqo..you're either very close to Randy or you are Randall.

"Ahead of his time"?? On what planet and in what alternate universe. Dude is Chairman of the board...he has the gifted tongue and the power of influence.

I know things are crumbling when other board members are blamed over and above Randall. The. Buck stopped with him. So now I suppose he's looking for someone(s) to blame. Firstly he couldn't find a talented workforce (his words) and secondly now the board is at fault???? Funny stuff.

Merger is irrelevant, layoffs will continue, but one thing is sure , we the Young Americans Won’t Pay for TV, Millennials are tech-savvy, thrifty and more likely to stream entertainment online than other Americans. Have they abandoned paid subscriptions long ago, free online content is king, that is why a company like AT&T, run by old timers have not come to a grip with reality.

It won't happen ! Just like T MO didn't but the nasty words and insults won't work. Have the facts , take the power and work together as a team. Unfortunately I don't think the TW deal will go through and that means AT&T will be done just as they were when they had to sell wireless or go bankrupt. CEO wAs ahead of his time but had the future spot on meaning cable at the time. This board seems to be struggling to keep AT&T viable . Not ' Randy ' the entire board of directors will bring att down

I'd like to remind those of one of the reasons the T-Mobile deal failed...the merger promised to create jobs att couldn't substantiate. Randall sold a used car the Chairman wasn't buying.

Att paid T-Mobile 9 billion (valued spectrum and cash) for nonperformance. Guess where the money ultimately came from???

"Stop it!!!.... Stephenson adefended the deal, reassuring senators that the combined company wouldn't lead to price gouging and that the combined companies would flourish innovation like never seen before in our lifetimes which would result in lower prices for consumers,..........,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,now, think about that for a minute..............,,,,,,,,...................... LMAO"

This proves some are really really stupid people and think ATT is expanding jobs. Look at what they did and continue to do to DTV. Layoffs big time and outsourcing to contract hires. what do you think will happen when they go all wireless and have the customer simply plug in the box. ATT will hire more people? Wake up to reality and read the various posts here and you will see a trend. Want to bet there are people from HR adding posts like the one above. Dumpling wireline is ongoing. Look at Connecticut. 4900 people when they sold to Frontier. 2700 were left in ATT and the others when to Frontier 3 years ago. As of this month there are less than 500 left in ATT and none have been transferred to other states. All layoff or forced retirements. The one remaining center in CT which includes CO and field support is a ghost town. Floors that once held hundreds now has less than 25 in them.

Wake up.

They want to do it to increase profits, that means fewer people.

T upper management is too incompetent to increase profits with innovation or original business thinking, merge and cut payroll is the only business plan these psychopaths know.

"Since there's no real duplication of positions between the two companies, I imagine it's likely more jobs will be lost if the merger fails than would be lost if it's successful."

Oh, you're so naive! T doesn't do layoffs because of duplication. They do it to cut costs because of silly mistakes made by senior management. I mean, who do you expect to have to take the consequences of disastrous leadership --- Randy and his boys, or the slobs working in cubes?

Bad for you and me, great for wallbstreet- It will go through, AT&T has one of the most formidable lobbying operations in Washington, The company’s list of nearly 100 registered lobbyists already on retainer in 2016 includes former members of Congress. AT&T is the biggest donor to federal lawmakers and their causes among cable and cellular telecommunications companies, with its employees and political action committee sending money to 374 of the House’s 435 members and 85 of the Senate’s 100 members this election cycle. That adds up to more than $11.3 million in donations since 2015, four times as much as Verizon Communications, according to a tally by the Center for Responsive Politics, a nonprofit research group.
