I was inelegible for Florida unemployement for the period of time the severance covered. The notification said to reapply in 6 months. However I found a new job in 3, so no need to use.

to the idiot who said volunteering was because the person was a "least productive employee, bad attitude, not a team player and probably had a serious case of bad hygiene" Your statement shows how dumb you are. Did you ever think someone would volunteer to save a job of the younger folks? Maybe they were ready and would go in a couple of years anyway. doing the right thing must be totally lost on you and someday maybe you will be recognized for having the stink your emanating right now.
If you volunteer and they want to keep you, more than likely you'll have to navigate the treaterous waters and keep your ear to the ground and see if you either, leave early on the inital date, or risk being chosen to be retained. If you decline you lose EVERYTHING except unemployment.
So if you are a RAE and wish to leave definitely stay the entire length because they can't retain you for that same position. But if they find something same level, such as 1b to 1b, you have to interview for it if asked to. If you wish to leave, just bomb the interview because if they offer you must accept.
It is my understanding that if you volunteer and selected you're treated exactly as every other employee who is involuntary. Same options, severance, etc. All you're doing is saying you're interested in leaving.
Once I volunteered and was accepted I was off payroll in 21 days. Very clean cut. Got the maximum severance pay- took about 40 days, as well as full retirement and unemployment. I'm fairly confident that if you volunteer you will be out in 21 days.
I'm curious what the timeline was like after you volunteered. Once notified you were, indeed, chosen for surplus, how long as your remaining time with the company?

I was an AT&T manager in California and volunteered for the surplus after 30 years of service in 11/2016. I elected to retire at the same time and selected the option to receive my entire AT&T pension in monthly annuity payments, and selected to receive my severance pay in 03/2017. I then immediately applied for CA UI benefits while looking for another job. CA UI denied my benefits because AT&T pays for our pension and because of the monthly pension payment dollar amount. Whether I volunteered or not for the surplus had nothing to do with the CA UI denial. The exact wording on the denial letter is “You are not eligible to receive benefits under California Unemployment insurance Code Section 1255.3 beginning 11/20/16 and ending when the disqualifying conditions no longer exist, and you reopen your claim.” The denial letter also stated, “Since the pension payments equal or exceed your weekly unemployment insurance benefit amount, you are not eligible for unemployment benefits.” They also sent me an appeals form, but I chose not to pursue. So, please read your State’s unemployment guidelines first and how they may affect your personal situation.
If you are eligible for CA UI benefits, the highest weekly benefit amount you can qualify for is $450. Also, CA UI requires you to look for 2 or more jobs per week and you must document your job search by providing the date, type of work, employer, contact type, outcome of contact, website URL/email of contact, etc., on your weekly certifications.
Florida person might be mistaking postponement for denial. You should re check. When mine was postponed it did say not eligible or something that could be mistaken for it.
If you receive severance it is calculated into your normal pay reported to determine a number of weeks of ineligibility. But after that you are good to go.
I also volunteered and left in June with well over 30 years. I got and am still getting unemployment. Makes no difference if you volunteered or they told you to go. If you leave during the surplus and were in an impacted job title, you are eligible for unemployment benefits. In fact, your severance paycheck actually states 'invol surp.' If you are ready to go, this is a no brainer.
Also receive UI benefits for the full 26 weeks I think it is.
Not sure about specific states and UI benefits but me I did get severance and received UI benefits. It's the full UI benefits of about $570 a week with normal requirements.
Yea whoever that was just hates life. Volunteering to leave for better things is the right thing to do for yourself. That was the culture at the VPGM and DOS level when they switched it over.
I know people that got a job within weeks, some are still kicking it. One started a company, there are so many things you could do. Like I said, now is a great time to look for your next step not just take anything you can get. You have valuable experience
I was in the May RAE cuts In Florida......if you got severance you are not getting Unemployment from the state.
I was denied unemployment benefits because I received severance.
How long were you unemployed before you found a new position?

oP s right, those who voluntariry leave have the kniledge and skills to move to a better company, for those that are looking for a career AT&T is not the place to be, I specially like the negative comment posted previously, that is the At&T culture , no need to be rude,
Not under ATTs volunteer program. It was strictly internal. I am unsure if you just volunteer without them asking for them. In my case, they asked for volunteers and I did. ATT does not block those and you are good to go. I received UI benefits just fine
Volunteering for layoff disqualifies you for unemployment?
Scary at first, but the checks come in for a bit longer after you leave. Depending on what you do with your 401k/Severance/Pension you will get unemployment either almost immediately or postponed.
I liked working for ATT but understanding that they have layoff calls every Tuesday 52 weeks out of the year tells you that it's Russian Roulette. Doesn't matter how good of an employee you are. Good ones and bad ones get cut alike. It's all about being profitable.
I immediately started getting calls from accounts that I oversaw to go and work for them. I still do to this day.
My recommendation, don't be in such a rush. Get yourself situated and look for the right next step. They are doing what's right for them, you should do what's right for you.

No you still get your unemployment benefits with the layoff. The volunteer was internal. ATT did not block it.
