Fake news is something intentionally concocted to be false.
This article seems like it might be relying on the false information that T puts out about layoffs and outsourcing. The T information would I think be considered fake news or false facts. whatever you want to call it.

This article is BS - AT&T and Verizon both cut more than 4,708 in 2015. And 20,118 seems a little light for 2016 - fake news...

T did their part in the corporate assault on US jobs.
A new twist is laying people off in the US and then hiring replacements in other countries who are then counted as FTE not contractors. It is a deception that makes the numbers look better.
"Tech jobs took it on the chin last year. Layoffs at computer, electronics, and telecommunications companies were up 21% to 96,017 jobs cut in 2016, compared to 79,315 the prior year."
