Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Enjoy it while it lasts

I have said this many times and I'll say it again: These company owned retail stores are worthless money pits. I have a cell phone and accessories and service, but I have never set foot in one of these cell phone stores. How is that possible? Simple. Accessories may be had for pennies on the dollar online, signing up for service is so easy now, a monkey could do it online themselves. You can buy a cell phone anywhere and almost always for less online as well unless your a moron who wants to pay monthly installments for your phones. What a sad society we live in when someone has to finance something that costs a mere $500.

Back in the day and when I say back in the day, I'm talking late 90's to mid 2000's these company owned stores brought value and served a purpose when you used to have to know what you were doing to set up service and program a phone. Not anymore. Anyone who thinks these stores will be around in the next 5 years like they are today is dreaming.

Think about it, a company owned retail rep gets paid over $50,000 a year for something someone at Walmart could do for minimum wage. If I know this, you can bet the leadership team knows this.

Enjoy the COR store gravy train while it lasts, because it won't last forever.

He/she is not wrong, but also doesn't realize or at least acknowledge how helpless the general public is when it comes to these transactions. Att is just leading the way in saying, "we aren't going to spend a gazillion dollars holding your hand anymore".

The other channels will be good enough and they are willing to take that risk. Knowing how poor and unreliable the support is for those channels, I'd hate to be left in an AT&T Retail location who will pick up the burden. Many ARSMs will just pass on the issue to their go-to store. And the issues that arise are aplenty.

Stores are money pits to people not in the know, but even smart successful people typically have no clue how to go from one phone to the next, even when step by step instructions are provided. People havent had to take responsibility for their "stuff" so our stores help them with this, as well as bring in additional sales with those phone sales.

One fault in the plan that I see is the dealers they are moving to are so big, they could be called too big to fail. They sell AT&T, but their first loyalty is to their own business. One dealer already has over 1400 stores. You aren't going to get them to follow instructions that don't move the profit needle. They will do the bare minimum to stay in compliance, but from there it's all about their own business. Just check out the staffing levels.

It remains to be seen whether this is a smart move, but by then a lot of talented and dedicated people will have moved on.

They certainly hope everyone will just jump over to Authorized Retail. That way the customer sees the same quality of person, but AT&T doesn't have to pay them or provide benefits. Some will, but most won't take tare the pay cut and look elsewhere.

TRO seems to be having issues filling their positions to handle National Retail. Huge territories, poor pay, and expensive benefits means no takers. NR used to be a joke job, but once combined with Authorized and huge territories it was a workload. Anyway, I don't think anyone will sell AT&T through NR because the support won't be there. That support and the relationship is what drives sales. But I'm sure they factored the drop in sales into their calculations.

This calculation was also taken with regards to handing off stores to AR. Myself, I think this is the right business move, but the support pieces definitely aren't in place to make it go well at this time.

We shall see.

@1hoh - Profit from what exactly? Monthly revenue from the stores customer base? That doesn't count. So your saying you did $1.5 million in profit from accessory sales?

This board is becoming so unhelpful. So many bitter people. If you get surpluses/layed off it's not the end of the world! You did after all find this job while you were looking for a job in the first place, I'm sure your life long dream wasn't to become a retail sales consultant in the first place. We all just fell into this... #fcktheBS
