More of the Same, offshoring accelerating under Trump

The Communications Workers of America union, which is negotiating on behalf of about 21,000 AT&T wireless employees nationwide, voted to authorize a work stoppage with 93 percent in favor, according to spokeswoman Candice Johnson. In a statement, AT&T said it's confident an agreement will be reached.

The union's main point of contention is job security, and Johnson said the CWA is negotiating to ensure workers in AT&T's U.S. call centers aren't replaced by staff overseas. With negotiations ongoing, the union will hold rallies in 35 cities ahead of a Saturday expiration date of its current contract, she said.

"It seems someone should be pointing out that they are selling service in the U.S. and shifting work to places like India," Johnson said. "President Trump made a lot of promises on the campaign trail, and we are going to hold him to it."

Little babies whining about paying their union dues while getting good pay, benefits, and protections. Pretty sad, spoiled brats.

The CWA did do a lot for people years ago but in the past 8 to 10 years has done nothing except insure their own livelihood and salary. Someone posted the pays the exec's get and I'm sure some think it was not real but I say the numbers and checked. All true. As for Trump being in the heading, Trump IS doing what he can about offshoring. The CWA supported Hillary Clinton and we all know how much of a crook she is. The CWA exec's are in her company.

This isnt the early 70's and CWA is not the Teamsters the days of breaking arms and beatdowns are gone unions dont care about anything except for the money the company pays them to act like they are there on your behalf. Quit crying and s--- it up Nancy.. lets face the facts pensions are done and you will work till till the coffin comes a calling. Unions now protect the companies not you.

OP you must have voted for Hillary Clinton if you would have been a Trump supporter you would know that the jobs that are referred to are for jobs that are Manufacturing AT&T does not manufacture products and sell them back to the US therefore Trump would have nothing to do with the outside of US job issue

Dreamers, of course unions will continue to thrive in toda's market, with low wages and less benefits for AlL new employees, and with the constant surplus declarations forcing more and more employees with less than 19 years to follow the job,or leaving the company to be replaced

, it is what is in for me, forget your buddy, sad reality

Why is Trump in the Title?

IT should read, More of the Same, offshoring accelerating under Randall and CWA.

Randall does not share the same interest in America First philosophy of Trump, Randall is worldwide iws his fallback, and CWA, well if Randall likes it the CWA loves it.

This is a good example of Corporate America really not caring about anything more than the bottom line, do you thin Randall would give up any of his salary to protect one union worker? Would any of the officers, give up their years bonus, not salary to save one job?

The Union has a place, but lost its way long ago, and lost interest in the American worker for big Union salaries. So we have an person in charge, who could care less about your job or anything more than the bottom line, not enough to make a profit, but to make his bonus at your expense, and a Union that has no value and does not represent workers,. Oh the Union will tell you about how many layoffs it could have been, with out them,

And when Randall fails in the TW folly, even if he gets it then what, sell wirleine, and let the magic happen in the cloud, no need for a network when you have the cloud and internet, The leadership does not understand or care about Telecommunications, only money.

And nothing to do with Trump, he has only been there 3 weeks, trolls

Whine all you want but I bet a lot of you sure were happy you had a union when you screwed up, got sick or had another emergency or someone in your family did. Keep pretending the union has done nothing for you and snipe at it as if its the culprit of your work place issues. I would love to see all your reactions the day the union did get dissolved and you were all suddenly at the mercy of management and HR. You think its bad getting surplussed? How about straight up getting the boot and having no recourse.

A tech in my group wanted to resign from the CWA. He was required by contract to send 2 certified letters-one to HR and one to the CWA within 10 days of the anniversary of our contract(that is the only time you can opt-out). CWA said they were having trouble reading part of the letter and he should send another one. Can't E-Mail or Fax--must be a certified letter, by the time he did, they received it after the 10 day window and did not approve it. Payroll would not stop the dues coming out of his check without "permission from the CWA" He got a lawyer and was advised that this was in the contract and could not be stopped. We thought that only the IRS could garnish your check without a court order!!

Nonsense. Every member of the Union gets a strike vote. The main problem is the apathy of some of the members.

What about mobility RSC? We have not heard anything about the bargaining for the RSC? Is it because the union perhaps knows they will be surplussed? We do not have the number of employees as call centers but we do have the dues to pay

The CWA didn't even give voting rights to all of its members. They are completely full of sh--. The CWA is in bed with AT&T and cower to their every demand. This contract will be just as sh--ty as the HC was. They will layoff more folks and replace them with the slugs from the merger companies. Who by the way are some of the most undertrained pieces of garbage in the workforce.
