Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

More outsourcing

Quietly the OCATS group is being replaced by contractors and the type of work originally supported by the tier3 people is shifting to supporting new installs for capital expense credit for the org. It does seem when the history is unknown by the executives they tend to repeat the bad moves. SBC used the excuse to downsize groups when the capital work slowed and the groups were considered excessive expense causing. Never mind the saving when problems were fixed and customers were saved. It's all about bottom line and anyone who thinks they are safe in this environment is fooling themselves. I worked in Chicago and was hit in early 2000's as were many others in the org all across the country. Many were able to get jobs in other companies and in reality it was the best thing to happen. Sadly today there is many more people looking for jobs and the picks companies have to select form is big. Back then the execs thought remote support was best and more cost effective. Around 2008 it was realized it was not working and the support groups were combined to one gain. Now 9 years later we see the same indications as reported by people still working in the group. Sad.

We had people in Mobility doing field support work up to about 3 years ago when they ( ATS )were brought into the role. Now were seeing outside contractors doing work the tier 3 people did along with my group. It does look like as said history will repeat . When capitol time goes down so do the people
