Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

October 28, 2016 surplus notices

Many were given surplus notices on October 28, 2016 with today being the last day. Did anyone find a job within AT&T?

Nope. Not even an interview. But it was also December, so there was no one there as they were all on holiday.

If you have 30 or more years service and in age group in the 55-60+ range, no luck being considered for a position or interview unless you know someone working on your behalf. I know of 5 men with 15-20 years service under 50 who were offered positions. If you are in the SE Region, Atlanta is the place to be.

good luck...as a former hiring manager whether someone was surplussed or not had no bearing on my selection process. All things being equal I'd take someone who was in surplus but I always defaulted to who I felt was the best candidate.

the people who are likely to get jobs are going to be L3 and above.

They offer demotions to many, in legacy jobs, and no relocation assistance, fortunately no one took the bait, better career outlook with other companies as far as can see, good luck to all

I know of no one that's gotten a job internally after surplus on top of which there is a stigma attached to those identified as surplus'd in the system. Hiring managers can see the identifier.

Internal applying should be used to the extent of being able to qualify for severance. Don't hang your hats on getting an internal job.

Nope. My experience is almost verbatim of the above post. Over 40+ apps and not 1 interview. Crazy!! I think the intent is to remove headcount. The job postings are just for show apparently.

I can guarantee you that almost no one got an internal job. That process is a total joke, there is no effort to place surplussed employees internally. I got a single interview out of 40+ applications, and it was a joke. I had to wait after talking for the VP who was interviewing me to unmute her phone. When she finally would, several times she asked a question about something I had already covered in a previous answer. Total joke.
