Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

What's your prediction for Verizon's next big bad investment or idea for 2017?

Home security? 5g drones? How about go90 promotion through airline wireless monitors? How about Verizon 5g sneakers that track your every move and send the info directly to "big brother," a.k.a. Mc@hole? Now these are some out of the box ideas. I'm going to throw my name in the hat to be on the board of douches. Verizon's motto for 2017....."We're the best, just ask us and therefore we're going to charge you the most. If you don't like it, go F yourself! "

The problem with VZ is they do not want to do the hard work to make the company sound and successful. Wireless was the cash cow now she is drying up and they are in panic mode. Scotti Diego is selling VZ on the idea the Millennials will be the saviors of the company, no chance. I agree with the comment most don't have 2cents to rub together. How are they going to save the company when all their parents are out of jobs and can't support their bad habits anymore?

Hopefully they realize that millennials are not the proper market segment that they want because they don't have any money. Look at Hillary, she relied on the millennial vote and it turned out that the 40 and over crowd killed her in the voting booths. The same thing is going on here. They're not signing up for our service and could care less about Go90 or Awesome TV. If they don't want to be the dumb pipe anymore there are two ways to go - either purchase real content like AT&T is going to do with Time-Warner or forget all of that and try to be best dumb pipe out there with FiOS and a revamped wireless service.

@oz1 ... I expect you are correct about that. May be a good chance that 2017 is the year that we see a lot of changes at the top with retirements and moving to other companies. VZ spent itself into a monstrous debt buying companies that were driven by the latest 'trend'. Trends usually fade and go away within three years.

Wireless is stagnant for the most part with little positive outlook for the far future and the American appetite for fiber to the house and the business is growing. That is good news for the wireline side and I would expect to see new management at the top and for a new push into fiber into the field. I think that 2017 and onward begins the rebuild of the wireline network as a growing source of transport revenue.

With the death of copper, as mandated by the FCC, residential customers will have a choice between a wireless NID or a coax/fiber connection from a local telco or the cable company. If the telco is not providing fiber to the prem than it is a good bet the customer will go with a cable company for TV, phone and internet. Or some mix there of. If VZ does not move to push fiber into the ground they will be relegated to an ever growing competition in the advertising revenue market and an over competitive wireless market; not a good place to be.

My guess, 2017 will be a stagnant year for Verizon where they try to stop the bleeding. There will be a lot of EISPs and layoffs on both the wireless and wireline side.

Currently vz is testing 5g powered micro chips that have a 10+ year battery life. When your toothpaste tube gets low it will phone in for a replacement to be shipped so you can add it to the ten tubes you already have in your bathroom closet.
