GTOC changed to NON-Excempt

Effective 11/27 they are changing the GTOC positions to NON Exempt. They are changing all the rules to mirror an occupational position. Even changing to a new time reporting system. Every minute must be accounted for. They said we can no longer even check our email from home because that would be considered work and they would have to pay overtime. But "Don't worry you are still management" Ha Ha

Asked if our pay would stay the same they said yes. Don't believe a word they say. When we hear more will post it.

If you make more than that and are a salaried worker they don't have to pay OT. If you are in an hourly position nothing changes for you.

is non-exempt status the same as VRO Variable Rate Overtime. Variable being the keyword.not consistent or having a fixed pattern; liable to change.

An executive order signed by Obama quietly now requires some changes in a lot of company's

"The final rule, which takes effect on Dec. 1, 2016, doubles the salary threshold -- from $23,660 to $47,476 per year -- under which most salaried workers are guaranteed overtime (hourly workers are generally guaranteed overtime pay regardless of their earnings level)"

Now realize the cost to company's and when the people start to be laid off who are you going to blame.

How many "low information voters" are here and voted for Hillary and have absolutely no clue what goes on around them until they are affected. Wake up people.

No one said otherwise. There's no sense coming on here trying to start an argument.

Plain and simple T is in it for themselves . If they weren't in it for themselves. Then it would be logical that they leave your salary un touched.

We are not talking about exempt status. The OP was discussing a change to non-exempt status. The FLSA is pretty clear that they have to be paid time and a half for any work in excess of 40 hours in a week.

1mjk: overtime by definition must be paid at time and a half.

1wep: probably something cooked up by hr when looking at job descriptions and it is probably related to Obama's new salary/ot requirements.

Do you think this change is a company thing or something requested by our direct management.

I have people reporting to me who are "managers" but are non-exempt. They are treated just as you described above. And they fall under the management compensation package.

I'm not sure what concerns you have but I can certainly try to answer any questions at least from an overall perspective. I obviously couldn't answer anything specific to your position or organization.
