Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Time Warner deal is essentially dead.

Trump will kill it dead in Q1 or Q2.

Luck for Randall, it;s not going to be a messy split like T-Mobile was.

There is some major denial in here. Trump just said he would kill it and people are not going to forget that.

Trump is also not going to forget he said it.

At this point, doubting Trump is not the brightes idea. He has pretty much defied the odds.

I don't like the guy and didn't vote for him, but I still think this deal is in trouble.

A). He's not building a wall along the border.

B) He's not getting Mexico to pay for the wall he didn't build.

I've got a bit of respect for people who say they voted for him knowing he was bs'ing about everything , but for the people who truly believe this? It's going to be a disappointing four years for you people .

He can force Mexico to pay for the wall, and he's explained how he would do it. Of course, many never hear the explanation because they just start calling him and his supporters rubes, rednecks, etc. Do you have any idea how much money illegals send to Mexico each year? Ok, I'll tell you then. Somewhere between $50 - $120 billion. That's billion with a "b". It will be very easy to throw a tax on money being wired to Mexico, all you have to do is figure out the number required. A simple tax of only 1% on $50 billion would be half a billion dollars per year. You can pay for a lotta wall with that kind of money, and look at who would be paying for it. I'll let you figure out who that is.

Mexico has already said that they will never pay for that wall to be built. If he tries making them. He's asking for war, besides more illegals come across plan than crossing the border. Building that wall will not accomplish anything except put the country into more debt.

This would be a vertical acquisition, not lateral, meaning the two companies are not alike. These acquisitions are always approved. Its when the companies provide the same product e.g. Verizon and ATT do the same thing.

To the poster below: try expressing yourself in a way that everyone can appreciate.

Otherwise, you're the guy laughing at his own jokes.

"executive orders" and "stalling and shaming it"

Oh, you poor child, you.

Trump just babbles and his words are worthless, but what he actually does will matter.

Personally I think he will be for the merger, just another business type thinking only about money.

Pundits are already starting to cast doubt:

Here are some ways he'll kill it:

  1. Executive orders

  2. Stalling it (house and senate belong to GOP) and shaming it to the American people so that it becomes such a hot-button issue, AT&T & TW get cold feet.

Comcast and Universal are probably also on the radar if Trump's rhetoric is to be believed.

Kind of curious to know how people here expect trump to stop this deal. I know he said he wouldn't approve it, but this deal doesn't need any kind of "presidential approval" - so someone explain the mechanics of how this is going to work, please - I honestly don't know.

October 22, 2016: While laying out plans for what he hopes would be his first 100 days in the White House, GOP nominee Donald Trump said he would not approve AT&T’s proposed $80+ billion acquisition of Time Warner. Claiming that “deals like this destroy democracy,” Trump also said he was opposed to the Comcast/NBC Universal merger.
