Well this is it. Just found out from a coworker in C&E that the big bosses were in a meeting yesterday (Friday 11/4) discussing details of what appears to be a huge layoff planned for the first quarter of next year. It sounds like it will impact all workgroups not just construction. The aim a reduction of 10-15% of the workforce off payroll by the end of the quarter.

There may be a layoff but it would probably hit the people who are working in the copper world still in C&E. I work in the fiber area (C&E) and we have been told that we have a lot of work to do in order to get the company to where they want to be in 2020. We have also heard that 2020 is really ending up to be 2025. I'm not saying I am safe but if someone like me is laid off we will turn into contract workers. AT&T just does not have the fiber network to do what they want to do. There is Light Gig, Gig Air, and 5G coming and we do not have the fiber backbone to do what AT&T wants. I'm in Silicon Valley so maybe we are just different than most sections of the company but the fiber world is very busy here.
3 types of Service techs only 1 are the expendables , 3 scenarios; 1 - few still working hard fixing POTS service and the first ones to be affected during a surplus, 2- many just chilling and relaxing at rework center, the boss buddies " the untouchables " 3-most in light duty, 2 old to work but good at getting benefits, pay raises , bonuses, for a job well done, funny isn't?
Google fiber is hiring, many C&E positions, 2 ex workers are making more money, no MSCOC Bull sh-- ,no bipolar female supervisor, and more of a future for their career

Logic is less cell sites forecasted to build/turnup/optimize. I don't know much about 5g but I'd also assume it's likely configuration/software/component changes and not massive buildout intensive.
Why? What's the logic here?
