I got letter from AT&T regarding the COBRA Health coverage. It says AT&T will subsidize the cost of coverage for the next 6 months until June 30 2017 and after that the cost of coverage will increase. Am I correct in assuming that no premium needs to be paid for next 6 months and AT&T will pay the premium? And starting July 1 2017, the full premium amount needs to be paid for COBRA coverage to continue? Has anyone clarified this with the AT&T Benefits center?

Chiming back in here, this might help someone else prepare/brace themselves for costs after their surplus event. I found out my full cobra amount, minus the 6 month subsidized part from ATT.
I had the following coverages - Medical Gold individual, Dental Gold Individual, Careplus.
I'm not sure if your physical location is a factor in cost either.
Monthly total = $637.13
Plan accordingly.....hopefully you'll get a new job before the 6 months subsidized runs out, but for myself that hasn't been the case unfortunately.
$ 755 month and $890 co pay here age 49
Obama care $1210 per month and 10 co-pay
All based on age it seems. 56 here
I also was laid off and thought COBRA was ok until I received notice I was finished and needed to move to AHC. Cobra was $71 per month and ACA is $1210 per month with a $9100 co pay for me and the same for my wife. Although the insurers cannot refuse anyone for any pre conditions they are not restricted in what they charge. Also age is another factor they can use. I was forced to use the AHC ( Obama care) for 2 months and was fortunate I got a new job with health care. My age is 54 and wife is 55 so plan ahead folks.
I think what people need to consider with these dollar figures being thrown out here is everyone has different variations of the insurance and who they are covering which affects the full COBRA rate after the ATT subsidized part ends.
These rates being thrown out seem pretty steep to me, I had COBRA once before earlier in my career where my insurance was better than what even microsoft was offering, and it was no where near the $1,000 figures being thrown out here.
Just my two cents.
My COBRA is $1193 per month. Thanks ATT
Don't bet on Obama care being cheaper. I was let go and took cobra at a minimal cost for Blue Cross $65 per month for the wife and I. Received notice the cost would be more , $1538 per month. Checked with AHC and received a shock. Two people over 50 medical only $1245 per month and a $ 9870 co-pay before they pay. Add it up and see why ATT drops medical.
the bigger shock is retirees loose coverage also.
I was in July surplus. I paid $31.00 per month until Dec 31. If I want to continue the same benefits starting in Jan they will be $501 per month. That's me alone so I cant imagine what a family would pay.
I'm gonna look on healthcare.gov for another less expensive offer. I have benefits with a new employer but have to wait until March until they kick in.
Obamacare ould e cheaper, forget cobra
I was in the june 2016 surplus. ive paid $128/month for gold level medical and dental along with the careplus.
I'm afraid to know the full cobra dollar amount beginning in march 2017. Hoping I dont need to find out and will be employed finally. Its been a long road thus far.
Make sure you cancel your coverage after 6 months, they will continue billing you at much higher rate and fron there to collection agencies, get that in writting -priceless treatment fron your only AT&T
You Will need to pay premiums at employee rate forthe next 6 months, they will let you know , will be close to what you are paying today - medical only, dental, vision and other life insurance coverage is not subsidized , after the 6 monts goes around 1,200.00 a month ...just medical
You're probably correct, either way your insurance company will send you a statement if anything is due. Don't worry no insurance company will provide you coverage without payment.
