My group was combined with another group and we were told that people would be "cross trained". This was promised over a year ago. Here we are now and surprise, nothing happened. I came across a "management" document which states that, although the combined groups have different jobs and training, the personnel in these groups would be able to work each other's workloads. It's bad enough that there is currently minimal work, but it now appears that we will have to compete for it as well without the necessary training. I've seen the company do this before and the term "operational efficiency" was used. In a nutshell, this gives the company another way to oust staff because of "staff overage".

Get as many badges as possible, my boss used to tell the people not longer here, many were Surplused with 100+ under their belt
Most training now a days consists of reading a few PDF pages. The whole company is brain dead.
