Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Please read VERY IMPORTANT AT&T Info

People

This website is not healthy. Stop coming here and live your life. AT&T is not the company it was 5 years ago. They are reducing the overall workforce. It shouldn't be a surprise to anyone. If you believe that you are an asset to AT&T they will either keep you or you will find another job in no time.

Quit reading the garbage on this website.

Are you holding up your end of the bargain? Do you have a college degree? If you don't and you fear your job is in danger why are you not taking advantage of the tuition reimbursement?

Are you feeling sorry for yourself or are you going to do something about it?

AT&T is getting out of the retail business sooner rather than later. They days of 3K commission checks for "selling" customers what they came in asking for are over. Use the contacts you have and network.

If you are in disability before the surplus date, you are still employed, your surplus notice clock will stop, until you return of course

Gotta be the worst Fortune 500 to work for. The managers actually follow employees to the bathroom

and back to their work station. No verbal communication or eye contact either. Weird.

Do we have a college degree? Honestly who gives a sh-- about a college degree? Does your degree allow you to be able to think outside the box, tailor your mindset to current situations that need delving into, thinking on the fly when millions of dollars are involved, building databases from scratch that solve productivity problems with the touch of a button? It's a piece of paper. Let me tell you this, if I have a person with as little as 2-3 years experience coming in for an interview that's sharp and doesn't have a college degree, he or she is getting the job over the "degree obsessed" with no experience. I've found that these folks are the ones that feel things are owed to them because they have a piece of paper that says they sat in class and passed some tests. Layoffs should be looked at across the scope of people in the organization, people with degrees included. At the end of the day, I want to go to work with people who are experienced in the jobs and can handle what's thrown at them, not a book smart, degree holder who thinks the world is owed to them and their worthless 40k in school debt.

I get it. This is a only a job at a company in a sea of jobs & companies out there. There is more to life outside of AT&T. But if people want to rant here, let us. If you don't like it, don't visit this site. Simple.

God Bless all losing their jobs at AT&T. The corporate couldn't care less about anyone but themselves. They travel for fun and say it's for business. I have seen for myself one big shot sitting at his desk with his foot on it. And, he has the audacity to say...Ahh..life at AT&T. How dare a company even allow this! I've been gone from there for a while. And, it was on my terms, not theirs. Just know all that are being let go, There's a huge, healthier World outside of that dump.

Look at how the OP (whose flooded the board with these types of posts) crafts his/her dramatic whiz bang heading and then similar koolaid content in the body.

ATT has built much of their most recent cultural brand on keeping dissent/disruption out. Disruption is good for the high tech company att bills itself as. This sort of OP message was typical of my leadership rank - they didn't want to hear about making things better, trialing cutting edge solutions. We only grabbed on to tech buzz words to the extent that it APPEARED like we were adding value.

And in att Appearance is everything which is why the used car paradigm is spoken about so much here. Let's pretend we're affecting real change without actually doing it. And anyone who presents as an outsider - get rid of them.

I'm learning at my new tech company ( a real one) that being an outsider is how great things get made.

Does OP knows how to use Google? Lets say '"AT&T JD powers award, or AT&T Randall S. CEO of the year?" News are there, or ... may be OP, did not finish high school and is a supervisor at aT&T, now... That makes more sense

This board shines a light on at&t and the big wheels don't like it. It brings to light how the T really treats people.....I.E. not good! I think there are planted posts to try to descredit the neg posts of people being layed off or surplused. The T can't control this board and try to white wash it as the Company of the Year or best CEO ever.....lol

Please don't feed the trolls, very sad and silly troll, and not very well informed, OP, like most Trolls, this one likes to accuse and insult, I also noticed how quickly moved from serious discussion to a sustained personal assault, to disrupt the online discussion, my guess bipolar, borderline, female/ male- & divorced. I think I am getting warmer

I honestly think this board is perceived as causing real damage, which is why the spin drs and the troll artists come on hear to discredit even the balanced posts.

There is no JD powers award, fake made up CEO of the year award (from a magazine I've never heard of) spun NPS results, and PR campaigns that can undo what this board is illuminating. I beleive some of these koolaid posts and gas lighters are paid to detract and discredit. Don't fall for it.

@KPErFgo-1roz I've got 19 years with the company. I also have a side business that will take care of my retirement. I've taken care of business and made something with the money I earned starting with being completely debt free. I want to work and feel the company owes it to me to, at least, let me reach my Modified Rule of 75 year before I seek another career. I can tell you this for sure, it won't be next to you asking people if they want fries with that or want to supersize it. I'm proud of the fact that I don't live paycheck to paycheck. But, I also realize that many of my fellow coworkers don't. Many don't have the college degree I do and this is the best job they will ever have. It is for this reason we cry out about what the company is doing and it is for this reason I tell you STFU!

Well the PR spin doesn't doesn't seem to be working. It's either flaming trolls who come on here to incite rage or people telling us to "this is just business, get over it.

I have a general counsel brother (who works for a Fortune 500 whose always told me that employees who think they're layoff is personal is usually right. Of course his job is to prove otherwise.

So that "it's business" is just charismatic Jim jones koolaid. I can think of 6-7 highly targeted layoffs of top performers who annoyed a low achieving (used car salesman) directors/avps who could doctor up a PowerPoint and hide major leadership/technical/excecution issues. We were all told to stay under the radar and keep our mouths shut. Those passionate about their job who provided good ideas and how to turn it around were surplused.

The dark side of att layoffs need to be told. And any one coming on here to say none of these issues exist are doing employees, shareholders and customers a huge disservice.

I think there is some healthy balance needed.

I have noticed the writing on the wall for a lot of things. I was prepared to evolve within the company to go where the business was trending to. Hell, I was even willing to pay my own way to Atlanta or Dallas if the price was right. I have a degree. And I know damn well that COR is a lot more than just "selling what people came in for," there is a ton of true professional sales tactics involved.

The issue begins and ends where the company is not completely transparent on what the future holds for certain positions. My nightmare was moving to another city for the company only to be surplused, which was a very real possibility given that my role was dependent on COR and AR. I was sold that I was moving to a market HQ and the exposure alone was worth it for lateral pay. Well, that VPGM just retired and they aren't filling his spot and the region is dissolving. I would have been SOL. Preparing for the rainy day and walking away from the company was the best thing I could have done.

I was one of those so-called "Kool Aid drinkers" who believed in the direction of the company only to be frozen out and retaliated against when I was unable to move. I was a model employee who never missed a day and now I need a shower thinking about all the times I got my employees to "buy in" on company initiatives that only costs us traffic and jobs (see: myAT&T).

I find this site very informative (minus the trolls). Management isn't up front on the company issues and we are left in the dark. I've gained a lot of valuable info here. As the saying goes, "where's there smoke there's fire".

This website is very healthy as it takes a broader look behind the curtain of misinformation. People are being told everything is fine when it's not. We need to plan for what is to come and sometimes the only way is in a public forum where people share what they know. So much mistrust is only the result of management spinning fairy tales on how great things are when in fact they are not. Just be prepared if you are in an affected group and don't believe it when they tell you there will be time to find a position within the company. When it comes to your well being you better believe it that we will source information from this site when it is not coming from management.

Why is logical sense deemed as "troll feedback"? Common sense is rarely common I get that, but please do yourself a favor and acknowledge all the signs, our environment is becoming more and more digital, mobile and simple. Less human hands on the front line and more human brain behind the evolving ideas (computers). Also don't kid yourself, Trump is not "bringing jobs back" to America, he can't tell companies to stop automating their services. Sooner rather than later most current service jobs will be replaced by an app or data analytics will figure out how to predict all customer needs and avoid any consumer effort. Example: I love my amazon dash buttons throughout my kitchen and laundry room, one touch one click and Amazon prime delivers what I need and I receive notifications throughout the whole process. It's a cold hard reality but you can't escape it by calling people trolls or vocalizing your frustrations on the internet under an anonymous user ID. use your time wisely, read learn, plan, save put on your scuba suit on so if the ship sinks...YOU Have the ability to swim away. I don't want to be rude but this self of entitlement is vey troublesome. Most people waste time complaining about their finances, their job, their marriage, their weight, and everything else. Solution; budget, save, network, stop complaining about all of the above and most likely your marriage will improve. Exercise and stop whining, you are alive.

Best wishes to everyone who is so stressed out and fostering all types of toxic emotions

There is light at the end of the tunnel, any tunnel!!!

"STFU" via Post ID: @KPErFgo-1wcf. Well yes, this seems useful.... This individual should go far if in fact they are a soon to be a surplused AT&T employee. Tip for your next job, don't let the oil get above 400.

You're acting like the opportunity in this company is everywhere. It's not. You have to pay your own way to move to a city for a job that will pay laterally.

I'm grateful for all the skills I've developed from the company and the job that I have now outside of it. I'm extremely bitter about the horrific relocation policy and the fact that the company fired me because I couldn't afford to pay for my own move that they forced on me.
