I just recently became a Comms Tech. Only been with the company like 4 years. There are others here that have 45-50 years.
How do y'all feel that the prospects are for me and other Comm Techs to keep our job in the next few years with all the happenings? Would it make sense that if they surplus that they would offer the old timers a buyout?
Also, has there ever been a time where AT&T has flat out laid people off instead of surplussing them? Is surplussing in our contract?
Severance rumor is false. It is not getting cut.
The only offers will be "take your 6 months severance now because next year we will reduce that severance to 3 months" Good luck all.
I am a comm tech with 50 years of serice and I am waiting for an offer. The irony is: If the company had not made offers in the past then I would have long been retired. But because they do make offers (very lucrative offers at that) the incentive is to keep working unti97l an offer is offered.
CO attendants are fewer than ever, There are things that never change old times in light duty , for years remained while others were eliminated, and again a new wave of newbies, and again and again these newbies eliminated, yet the old timers remained.
T is in no position to offer buyouts anymore, seniority rules based on your location, the domino effect
You say there are others here that have 45-50 years. That to me indicates you in a very large Central Office with high traffic. In smaller offices there is no "we". Instead there is one comm tech for several offices. If you are in a larger Central Office, then expect pickup more responsibility/workload as the older techs retire. This works fairly well in a single Central Office, but is difficult when travel between multiple offices is required.
Work is transitioning from dieing POTS to growing HSI (with VOIP) and ethernet circuits.
I have never heard of a Comm Tech laid off in 17 years. I have seen them fired for cause though.
Yes - I was laid off after 15 years and not given anything, not even my earned vacation was I paid for.
Just leave those SOBs to time. Time is the master of everything.
