AT&T Fails to Wow, while AT&T's new TV service is unlikely to usher in a revolution, even if it works as designed, doesn't rock the industry as advertised by their chief executive Randall Stephenson, the new over-the-top TV service, DirecTV NOW, doesn't look like it is going to be a game-changer. Morningstar media analyst Neil Macker describes the pricing structure as "sedate" and that it isn't out of line with existing services like Dish's Sling and Playstation Vue. Still, he thinks over time these services will help offset the decline in traditional cable subscriptions. He sees Disney, with its strong content, as one of the best positioned in this changing landscape.

I don't get why they are going to abandon the DTV satellite by 2018, I think it is? My home internet is stretched now with all our devices. With my satellite and DVRs I can record 4 things at once and still watch another on a different box in the bedroom, all while no one's internet is being bogged down. And don't give me the "giga power" BS, it's no where even close to being available to me and I'm in a city where they started it. And what are rural folks gonna do now? Oh well, they also won't have cell service after Dec 31st when they shut down 2G. They'll just be totally left out. I thought the .gov was demanding more rural service and here AT&T is taking it all away.
I tried to download the trial to test it, but the website to sign up for the trial didn't work. Nope, not a good sign.
@3ipf - If that is the case, I guess DTV Now was not part of the 2020 vision...lol.
If setting the bar lower and lower is considered a game changer, then Randy is on target.
Randall said it is going to be game changer, May be in 10 years
Yeah right... I meant to launch a failed product that doesn't work, simply to iterate..., said no one ever.
It's just TV after all and cheap. Sometimes you need to push out a product when it's at 80% and do some rapid tweaking, change management and continuous improvement. The iPhone launch was not ready for prime time, but it was brilliant and it fundamentally and changed the scale and quality of mobile computing and wireless communication. The internet itself has never been perfected. If we all were to wait for perfection we'd still be stuck in the mud on almost all of the technology related to personal computing and networks the we take now for granted.
@axi- i hope you recommended that it would actually work.
Funny, no DVR or cloud is available
I bought DirecTV_Now and I like it. I got a free Apple TV 4th gen. DTVNow is cheap & portable. I was watching CNBC at Starbucks today on a crappy generic Android phone. A cloud DVR is probably coming soon if they have it together. I recommended this solution, OTT TV + cloud DVR, to the highest level before I quit $T. The best part is that I can save a few hundred $$$ per year by cancelling UVERSE TV.
There's a consumer reports award in dtv's future ... to Make this all go away
Att is the land of make beleive. As long as you've got a wiz bang used car to sell - everything is awesome.
The Randy show...ignore the empty promises, layoffs and failed projects, just look at all the glitter and bling around the Randy.
And get ready to atpy more....AT&T will raise DirecTV prices from January 2017
To all senior management that had to launch the new and improved, DirectV now, do you know what UAT testing is?.......consider this failed launch a teaching moment, "User acceptance testing (UAT) is the last phase of the software / platform testing process, in which actual software users test the software to make sure it can handle required tasks in real-world scenarios, according to specifications, load and traffic.
