Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

RIFs coming to Wireless in January

Hearing C-level stores closing across country. This will be done in waves starting in West. Solutions Managers reduced to 1 per location. District Managers reduced by 20%. Directors reduced nation wide. 50% reduction in non-commission positions. Look for retail to completely change as we know it. Gross Gains need to be average of 200 per month for 2016 to avoid closure. These rumors are coming from good sources. Let's all hope they're 100% inaccurate....

They are relocating and consolidating call centers to business tax friendly states. So if your in one of those states, you benefit. While people who don't want to relocate when their states call center closes lose their job.

A stores are top performing stores. They do the most business. B stores are average performers and C stores are bottom performing stores.

If you get a job at a call center, understand your job is totally expendable and you can be asked to relocate or lose your job at a moments notice no matter how well you think your performing.

Trump will have ZERO impact on this rotten company. Verizon does everything it can to stop the spread of the union and for retail stores, its too late.

I currently do not work for Verizon but applied for a call center supervisor position recently. Why is Verizon hiring call center supervisors and managers if they seem to be laying everyone off? Do they need to hire for these positions so someone can do the firing? Also, what is a "A-level store" and what is a "c-level" store? What are your thoughts on the impact of the presidential campaign and Verizon employee's unionizing.

It's reliable. Verizon sees it's retail stores as a liability at this point. Many will be closed or turned into authorized retailers. Many more will face reductions in headcount.

I can remember back in 2004 a Verizon store only had a store manager and that was the only manager. Why not go back to that structure? It worked fine.

There have been plenty of conversations at the executive level on how to shift distribution so they can dump stores. 2017 will be the year they execute on those initiatives.

Get ready, the axe is going to fall in many places next year. Did you see the revision to the secerence policy that says they don't need to pay severence if the company owned store becomes an indirect?

Are SM and RM cuts specific to C stores (and C store concentration) or are they across the board? How reliable is this info?

Oh it's coming. I know of a couple of stores where they have open GM and SM positions that they haven't filled in months. Typically they fill those positions quickly but they have chosen not to. Something big is coming... when I talk to other GMs and SMs you can hear the change in their voice in the way they talk. I've been told myself to start preparing for the worst in the very near future. I myself have prepared and feel for the people that are oblivious to what is coming.

Surprise, surprise! We continue to cut jobs like we are a struggling business even though we have been ranked in the top 30 richest companies in the world for several years running. Why are we cutting jobs? Costs. Why cut costs? Increase profitability. The great minds in finance continue to fail at their jobs. If you decrease input, you decrease output. Simple. How about the geniuses that be take a look at shipping? Marketing? Advertising? Overall reasoning? I continue to get accessories sent priororty overnight that come in a single box that are valued at $19.99 or less. We have outdated light boxes and continue to get many POP materials for them that are countiously throw away due to over shipment. Don't get me started on our ads. T mobile, Sprint, AT&T, Straight Talk, etc continue to prodcast ads claiming exactly what our customers want yet we continue to ignore them. We claim to put our customers first and that we are a business that values integrity? I believe my definition of integrity differs from the folks in NJ/NY. How about another buyout? Maybe that will turn the tides. I'm sure we can get a steal on Hotmail. The people pulling the strings are so out of touch with reality it is laughable. So let's make a great business decision and cut the jobs of people that keep the doors open and expect them to do better than they did when more employees were there. (See output curve). Oh and even better idea! Let's keep the whining landline folks around even though that side of the business has been obsolete for years and spit in our face when we went to work in their territory just to try and get a little ahead in our lives and they acted like they wouldn't do the same. Retail and more specifically bottom line retail is the reason anyone within the company gets a paycheck. LMA and his stockholders couldn't careless. Maybe it is time we all unionize. Ugh Oh. That might strike a nervous cord and get some attention. To all the DMs, FMs, GMs, SMs, RSSs, SS, Sr Ops Analysist, SMB Specialist. Good Luck. Try to forget about all of the sacrifices you have made over the years so our stock prices can increase a few percentage points at best. That is selfish of us. I completely understand that we do a job for a BILLION dollar company that looks out for their best interest, but come on, if they can get rid of you do you know how much money that would save? Yes! Those ridiculous trainings are necessary. Yes! Completely changing our logo and image was necessary, have you seen Nike, WalMart, McDonald's, etc change their logo? We are trailblazing. Your sacrifice has made the company countless amounts of money for a very small wage, while missing countless lifelong memories and asking ridiculous expectations. I am sure when we all get the call we will get a Thank you, because that is what a company that has a core value of "Integrity" does.

I survived the cuts a month ago and was moved from Ops/Exp Specialist to RSS in an A store. Super excited to probably get cut just a few months later.

I have heard the same. But have been hearing it since 2015. Not sure if these actions were delayed and will now be implemented in 2017?

Also, there is only 1 or 2 non commission positions left per store. How do you cut 50% of that? Any news on positions that support retail at the market level?
