Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Retaliation. . .The AT&T Way

In our parents' America, if you worked for a long amount of years, you were awarded with a party and a gold watch. You were valued because you showed up for work, did the job as you were trained and the company worked as hard at keeping you as you worked at doing the best job you could do. It was a mutually beneficial arrangement.

At AT Are you generating revenue for the company? Is it enough? Are you active in your local union? Don't be surprised to find the company silently and stealthily turning your coworkers against you and to make your local ineffective and unable to help you at any realistic level.

When I began multiple years ago, I thought "What a company! I could retire from here!" That gave way to "Well, it's not ideal, but I can do this!" That gave way to "I'll just keep my mouth shut and maybe they'll leave me alone." That gave way "Oh, my God! What am I going to do? What did I do wrong?"

I am sad that a company that I have worked so hard for, for so long, now sees an experienced employee as a liability. . .a nuisance to be pressured. . .into making a terminable mistake, into medical depression or into poverty.

I wonder what our customers would say if they knew?

Wow, so many similar experiences... I'm taking a severance voluntarily and I'm blessed to be retirement eligible...HR has tried to make even retirement a cluster...I was Ameritech, SBC, then AT&T...when I would encounter the AT&T reps when I was within either of the others, they were miserable and described a ruthless, brutal culture...they were right...I have empathy for my peers that have to endure it further...

Best wishes for the coping skills to survive the toxic environment...

Customers know, where do they think the lower prices from product and services come from? I sympathize with folks who feel frustrated at these events. I have a solution, do your own thing. I am.

If Trump is going to get rid of corporate greed why is he filling his cabinet with Billionaires?

A close look at what happened with Carrier is certainly nothing to be happy about. The taxpayers of Indiana, who are workers not Billionaires, will foot the $7 million bill to keep 800 jobs in Indiana but another 1300 are still disappearing to Mexico.

you need to shut your face . Trump will make America Great Again and get rid of corporate greed. He will get rid of the foreigner visas that take high paying jobs and pay them pennies on the dollar. everybody that reads this needs to send an email to Trump offices to keep our high paying jobs.

Gee, what started out as a guy with a legitimate take quickly degenerated into a political slap fight.

The punchline are all the chronically ignorant morons who actually believe the bellowing cheeto actually gives a sh-- about their jobs or can (or would) do anything to actually save them.

You idiots are in for a very rude awakening.

2oce is totally right...I also notice that when the truth gets exposed here, there's always a series of trolls who I believe are paid to discredit this board by acting out or otherwise illustrating that T employees on this board are just disgruntled, dismissive, detractors.

Managent/HR help? Really? I used to believe that tripe about them being there for us for the last 20+ years to help until I had my own encounter last year. Management don't care as long as you don't make waves. HR is mostly outsourced to 3rd party vendors overseas. Those that are posting negative comments towards the OP are either in la la land or trolls whose job is to disrupt these forums. I used to believe that this company valued its employees. Not anymore

I did not vote for Trump but I would love to see him do something real to stop the outsourcing of jobs.

What is not real, corporate tax breaks that directly or indirectly encourage offshoring of U.S. jobs.

What is not real, secret backroom deals that hide giveaways and corruption.

What is not real, the H-1B visa program that pushes IT wages down.

What is not real, campaign promises to stop NAFTA and TPP that get "forgotten".

Hey hillbots, do you realize your girl was all about selling US out to the globalist with TPP ?

With net neutrality mucking things up there's another step forward.

Cowards? You can always spot a management wanna be, they tell you it is an equal relationship between management and worker, they tell you the system is fair and works for internal grievances...stop being mean to management!

Even experienced managers know that is a crock.

Go to HR? Did this suddenly become a joke forum?

Tort? OK, it is a joke forum now.

It is not fair, it is not supposed to be. Management will screw people over in a heartbeat either because they are bullies and enjoy it, or because they are told to do so.

If you are being treated in an unfair manner and retaliated against then you have protectiont rights. You can talk to your mgr which you probably will not because you do not have a pair. You can talk to your human resources department hell in some states you can put in a tort claim(right to sue) for emotional distress. Man up or put up with the Bs you have been dealing with for years you cowards.

I agree with the poster, when I started with the company,Pac Bell I thought wow I found my place to work hard,be treated Great, paid well and a company and management that truly cared about you!! This is my last job, then sbc bought out pac bell and things changed drastically but hey it's still good pay I can deal with the BS. Then when it went to AT&T it got even worse year after year. Bad employee Treatment, micro managing ,all by the numbers and charts became the norm. Speak up about it and you were targeted to be suspended and fired. All while talking about customer service....lol

The company cares less about the customer only their $$ sad because we people that deal with the customers do still care!

Now we try to tune out the company's bad management to try to finish our last few years to retire in peace.

I'm tied if Idiot posters that a company just owes you a pay check, benefits and nothing more. I guess you have never worked for a micro managing ,back stabbing disloyal, cheap non ethical company like AT&T before. They expect so much more than they give to you it's pathetic! Try to lay off or surplus people before they can retire.....how is that ethical? Ride someone every min of the day to try to fire you if you speak up about how they treat people....is that right or just? Why they collect their billions and then cry like a baby when we want just a normal pay raise and job security.

There are Good large company's that treat their employees right and with respect .... AT&T isn't one of them....

Indirectly we are our customers. I've started to roll all my personal lines to T-Mobile. And I've told my friends and family too who are mortified with the way I was recently treated. If and when u transition from T, plan to transition your business.

Say it with cash!!!

No doubt our mental and physical health suffers in ways we don't immediately notice.

I think congressional hearings should put a microscope on the AT&T business strategy to outsource all jobs offshore.
