Thread regarding Follett layoffs

Illegal?

This new law was meant to increase the pay of those making under 47,000 that were exempt employees, not change some management positions (no manager3 or directors-why?) And cut their pay $2.00 an hour. Now, to get the same pay weekly you have to work 45 hrs a week, except they won't allow o.t. except when they say it is ok. The theory you will make the same at the end of the year is b---s---.

I do not need to work 60hrs a week more than twice a year. That is 40hrs of o.t. but I need to work 130ish hrs to make the same pay.

It is also illegal to require a hourly employee to work o.t. Therefore, cutting our pay is illegal. I hope they get audited.

Call the DEPT of labor and complain. Enough calls about the same company will trigger them to investigate.

Good luck with your stay and comply attitude. Staying is not the right thing.

Leave and close down their stores. They should go under for what they did.

That labor law change was not meant to have them "figure it out" and do what they did.

The top makes way too much and they need to s--- it up and realize that the stores are what makes their world go round ... I left and I am much happier now - I know I will get another job and be appreciated.

If you stay - do you actually ... really ... think that you will be appreciate. NOT ! Be honest with yourself.

Leave and go find something better!

Directors and sm3's are NOT the ones doing the actual work, they oversee and manage people. Those stores have text managers, ops managers, shipping managers, etc. All of them in my region work very set schedules, gone by 4 most days. I know one that doesn't even work 30hrs a week. But those are the managers that don't get paycuts. When the home office realizes there are not too many small 1 or 2 that can work w/out o.t. they will maybe open their eyes.

Remember, payroll this year drives your budget for next year. We are 2/3 thru the f.y. with only 1 rush that will be part of this new payplan. Use hours, and lots of them, or you will be even more screwed next year.

Not illegal, but certainly immoral. No better way to gut the morale of those who sustain your business than to disrespect and belittle one small step at a time. Until you find another job, put your required time in. When the end of your shift arrives, punch out and go. The work will be there the next day. When issues arise at rush (and they will), give your contact your GVP's or another senior manager's contact information and let them explain why they are reducing the service provided to their campus. Keep it professional in any communications. Get those resumes updated!!!

Work the hours required. Submit accurate time cards. It's all you can do. If you get fired for that, so be it.

I also think this is illegal. They ate finding a way to beat the system. The system was designed to help us middle class Americans not take more money away from us.

I am working 45 hrs a week, every week. That is what we all need to do so we do not get a weekly pay cut. I can't afford less than I am already making. They claim buyback we will use o.t. hours. Great, for a week, then we get less the rest of December. January, ok, otherwise, but really not going to make you thru til graduation if you work only 37.5 (lunch breaks mandatory).

June, July, back down to minimal hours, hell, our store isn't even open 40 in the summer.

What if everyone punches in & out the hours we usually work, screw what HO says, can they deny us OT?

This is when we all need to pull together & stick it to the man, they can't fire all of us.
