Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

A Message From Randy "Shiny Object Guy"

Folks, its time to pivot again. I know I told you that you needed to pivot for the software company we are becoming.

Well, I've changed my mind software is so 20 mins ago. You need to be pivoting for content.

Content 2.0 is where the next 20 mins is. So if you don't know how to edit a CNN spot, envision who the New Wonder woman is and where she defends good and fights evil - well you're going to be left behind.

@twt..lol typical of att culture is that anything which isn't understood is "stupid", dumb and incoherent. Both posters made clear arguements let's see if you can get this:

  1. This isn't a merger att has the leadership talent to really leverage and excecute. On CNN Randy already said "im just a telephone guy". He's already set the bar so low. I'm sure it's apart of the self-deprecating shtick.

  2. There have been promising initiatives T screwed up w/out even trying like labs/foundry.

  3. Now the current Randy strategy is to intergrate content vertically..it's short sighted and unimaginative but see #1.

1wrb, Nice incoherent post. Let us all know when you arrive at a point and can effectively communicate one.

If you honestly believe that Randall is just trying to put together a huge media portfolio so he can sell it to a company like Netflix, you're clearly not grasping the situation.

1ddn..do u or have you ever worked for att?

Kjp is right it doesn't matter how big both combined companies are. Randall is a numbers guy, a car salesman, a schoomzer, he's not a visionary nor a creative.

This wasn't a terrible buy, but in the context of att and leadership it's God awful. They bungled cool (and profitable) stuff at the labs and the foundry. So I know superman and Wonder Woman are doomed (lol) j/k....sort of.

Good ideas and good leadership are leveraged...this is a nightmare.

But lucky for the shareholders...Randy has a dog and pony show coming..it will explain away a lackluster 4Q. And for a few more years they'll all get drunk off the koolaid.

I really wish T could see the future I could certainly use some lotto numbers heck you wouldn't even have to wait for 2020 to be rid of me if that were the case.

1eug, I'm actually just hoping that AT&T makes good on it's promise to get rid of most of its awful, unskilled workforce.

@1kjp,

Yours is truly the dumbest post in this thread. What's the end goal? Seriously? Can you not even read?

And selling it to Netflix? Do you realize the combined size of AT&T Time Warner? Oh my god, some of you AT&T'ers are truly breathtaking.

What is the end game with all these purchases? To have a big media portfolio and eventually sell to a competent legitimately forward thinking company like netflix etc? I just can't imagine AT&T at the helm of what its purchasing and wanting to profit with the debt its accumulated especially considering it doesn't bother to retain talent and has no problem gutting its workforce. It all just seems very short sited. To those that keep bringing up 2020 please stop if AT&T had a time machine it wouldn't be doing what its doing. To be fair though, in the event it did have a time machine it probably laid off anyone that knew how to work on it.

2020? lol people regurgitate everything that sleazeball sales man Randall spews out as if its gospel. I suppose as long as you have enough s---ers believing it it keeps the cogs rolling until the inevitable pull back of the curtain. Don't be surprised if all you find is smoke and mirrors.

More losers and anti-Indian sentiment in this thread. What a surprise.

I'm in my mid forties and my son is about 12. His friends are of similar age. NONE of them watch OTA TV or pay subscription TV. All of them watch streaming services, You Tube, Netflix, Hulu etc. Let me emphasize this to anybody making decisions on the direction of this company, none of them sit in front of a TV and wait through commercials to watch the content they want. None of them watch sports on TV. I haven't done that myself in 5+ years. When they have the choice of watching that content on their IPhone or the 40" LCD TV connected to WiFi, the LCD TV wins every time. Go ahead and bet the farm on the Sunday Ticket.

Just my 2 cents from a family with 4 accounts with AT&T.

Create jobs? That's rich unless you mean for off shore Indians. T is going to have two competing entertainment groups so heads are going to roll and besides who in their right mind would want to work for AT&T? Create jobs uh huh.

@xkc

Why don't you just quit? Instead you waste your time and energy on that wall of crap you just posted.

You're the real loser. And guess what? For many people, this deal will open up new career possibilities.

I'm amazed how delusional some seem about this acquisition with terms like "exciting" I mean unless by exciting you mean how you will be in constant fear and stress of the enevitable Tuesday morning teleconference meeting announcing layoffs and closures. The rest of us we know how it really is. Randall is not interested in how good you are at what you do because whatever that is it's already getting ready to be automated, cut, or sent overseas. Mr. Randall has realized that the DTV purchase even if you believe the lie that that was for "content" is already a failure so this scramble for additional "content" with a purchase that gets T closer to bottoming out is a desperate attempt to save face. Here is the problem Randall your chasing a future tha assumes people still want to sit down and watch television weather under a cable set top box or streaming through an app. Well here is the bad news, they don't. The baby boomers that are to old to care about an app and still want regular "cable" tv are on their way out, their kids are more willing to adapt to apps but their kids and anyone else born after could care less about live tv and even live sports. Just look at the NFL ratings they aren't dropping because of some quarter backs protests ( seriously this is the nfls excuse lol) they are dropping because live tv is an out dated medium and even if someone did want to watch their team they can't unless they pay for a bunch of crap they don't need and what does it buy them? A first class seat to one the worst customer serviced toxic brands in existence. Do you really think people enjoy the giant att globe booting up every time they turn on their television? That right there probably motivates people even more to just drop tv all together. The age of cord cutting is here and it's picking up more and more momentum you have new generations of people growing up with online content of all types from news to videos and are perfectly happy and those same kids will grow up with no free access to sports on tv like their parents and grandparents and so they will have no vested interest in a team and therefore no need to pay for paywalled sports attached to bloated tv and app packages. Everyone who has cord cut will tell you that they know how to watch anything and everything for nothing all you need is a good internet speed something att isn't even willing to invest serously in anymore. Now you have to wonder how is it no one at the top has realized this cord cutting apocalypse? Well Randall they actually have and they are the same people that sold you DTV and are so willing to let go of Time Warner inc to you

Glad Randall is not the CEO of my present employer. Thanks Randall for laying me off last year. You did me a huge favor. Randall can take comfort in training those of us who used to work for him. :-)

Its exciting...but what happens when Randy gets bored with this new idea. What's next? Shall we follow Elon to space. Wireless service for martians?

Pivoting does have some element of ADD...but where's the balance. You can pivot yourself into chaos. And then nothing gets done, created or sold.

If this deal goes through thatwould put T as the highest indexed Debt/ Ratio company with more than 250billion in the Red, how many Tflix would need to sell in addition of content subs?
