Thread regarding AT&T Inc. layoffs

Work environment is awful; does it ever get better?

To all the AT&T veterans that have survived round after round of layoffs, does the awful work environment ever get better? For reference, I am a DIRECTV employee that sees a lot of good in AT&T's brand, network, global reach and SDN future, but the post-merger acquisition is AWFUL. Backstabbers, credit-stealers and generally rotten behavior from so many people (and DTV is definitely a part of that equation too), that I'm really wondering if all this garbage settles down after awhile, or if the work environment is actually a product of the cycles of layoffs...and it never really gets better.

If it's the latter I'm actually hoping I get laid off.

Thoughts?

BellSouth was good to their employees but it has been going downhill since the buyout.

There is no better. 19 years and I finally understand stress leave the first line managers act giddy if they can find a fault with your work. I actually had a manager disappointed after listening to one of my calls because he couldn't find any faults. It's demoralizing and stressful.

The more you know, the worse it feels - the more you climb, the uglier it gets. This is applicable to all corporations

No, it just keeps getting worse and worse. You cannot trust anyone within management because its the same lies and more lies. They treat employees like numbers and can't wait to get rid of people. After many years most employees are feed up and just keep their months shut but there are so many rotten apples in this corporation now that you just keep your head down and hope you don't get caught up with all the bull. Its sad how this company is now with the promotions, hiring of employees, the lack of care. They Upper Management get all the perks while the hard working employees are treated like dirt.

I have been with the company for 16 years and one thing I've learned.....things can and will always get worse. Working conditions are intolerable, AT&T will come to stand for Anxiety, Torture, and Tears.

Yep. Corporate greed at its best and the so called MIGHTY MIGHTY UNION (CWA) never there to stop it. They themselves are corrupt. This has been a cycle every time a purchase is made. Ultimately it the dedicated workers that keep getting hammered.

No. Just a repeating cycle. After this gets over with (or maybe before) T will buy another company. Rinse. Repeat. It's all Randall and his boys know.

No; it will never get better. AT&T management is rotten from the top down. There are some very good people working at T, but the culture is cheat, lie, and steal to make numbers look great on paper.
