Thread regarding AT&T Inc. layoffs

Do you remember the good old times too?

I remember times when AT&T was a good place to work, when being a rep. was a more than decent job. But, then the greed took over, and now, now they’ll throw you under the bus just to save some money or to keep the looks neat for the investors. This reduction in compensations and pay cuts in last few years is ridiculous. And the atmosphere is so toxic, drives away all the good people. Guess what, treating employees miserably does not lead to success.

It's clear you don't know sales quotas or high pressure intimidating tactics from sales managers stay in your cubicle

I work for them and I'm certainly not underpaid, it's the highest paying job in my area with so little experience required. While the bonus structure is not great it's at least there. I agree they are a little difficult to work for work large corporation mentality. But some of these comments are ridiculous. They are looking to make money but they do listen to their customers. Customers complained about no unlimited data plans anymore, they brought them back, then complaining about overages on data so they made plans with no overages. I work in tech support and there is absolutely no sales pressure. If you're a salesperson then duh of course they want you to sell. If you don't want to be in sales then find a different job and oh as far as lay offs.... We are union and they don't do that, smh

They changed our comp structure a few months ago....reduced my monthly take home by over 2 grand...before they changed it they said we would get paid per app and it would be exciting...I used to get 30 dollars for a new line of service on a phone...15 for a tablet.. and 3 dollars for a upgrade...now i get 5 dollars per opp..doesnt matter if its a new line or no..used to have 3-4k commission checks now if were lucky were hitting 1000....they want us to sell home solutions...digital life and directv....those pay much more...but our goals are 5-10 a month...they s--- at hiring upper management...the managers are some of the worst I've ever come across...the district managers are even worse...its less about taking care of customers...and more about jamming sh-- they dont need down their throats

I really don't get it, so AT&T train you on EEOC every year. How to prevent harassment and all the stuff that can violate your civil rights. And you are saying what. I found that people don't speak up because their hands are dirty. It's no way in heck that a clean hand person would take this unless you made Att a golden calf. This is bs no one willing to take a stand, of course if you are talking out side of your neck on company policy that is, you have no busy speaking on to make money or regulation that fcc is enforcing. I seem people upset that ATT had to right a wrong but the employee upset that it may impact their metrics, really get a clue. When you were hired you where hired for a purpose and not the one you want to assign yourself. Get in your lane and focus dignity and respect in the role you are doing . Stop being brain wash. And start saving your money so you won't be a victim. It kills me to hear people say ATT is going to close the center but no one save money for that event. Come on take some ownership. Even the bible talks about save for the storehouse 7 years of good seven years of bad. Save for those years.

This is what's happening in our office. AT&T wants me/us to compromise my integrity just so I can meet these unrealistic sales objectives (mind you I'm in a retention office). They say do what you have to as long as you don't get caught. Putting rep's on suspension and firing them. AT&T really did used to be an excellent company to work for, they genuinely cared about customers and the employees, but now it's all about the dollar.

We have an Area Manager that retaliated agains subordinates in the past for speaking their minds, now a days everyone "must" greed she is doing a superb job, unfortunately in several projects this quarter, she couldn’t formulate, or implement a good strategic plan because she lacked sound financial data, and technical expertise, so she blamed the team, that is the kind of management that we get in this company

Was your peers standing together, of course one person would look like a trouble maker. But when it's a majority of the employees screaming as one voice it grabs attention. Hints the word concerted activity, another thing your hands have to be clean because you are stiring up the pot. They are going to react but if you are a stellar employee it's nothing they can do without looking like they are retaliating. And we all know that's a lottery ticket for a law suite. I know by experience not by what someone told me.

I learned a long time ago....speaking up toward the company puts a Target in your back! I've seen others targeted to try to suspend and fire them for standing up. The T doesn't care about us....what we say or what we think....they just want low payed low experienced mindless yes man robots...that do what ever stupid ideas or the flavor of the month the company comes up....very sad way to run a large company!

Now they make demands on a person/employee that is impossible to achieve. Walking on egg shells is not a healthy or productive enviorment barely getting through the doors just to find out you have a "meeting" to hear how bad you are or something you did beyond your control. Setting employees up for failure.. This is coming from 1st levels. But if your team is gone, doesn't that mean you are too??? SMH

If funny that you remember this, I bet most people do. But I bet you don't know why, probably before your time there was this thing call organized labor from the bottom to the top. Employees coming together to fight what they needed. But now you see a hand full of fighters and a majority of critics/employees and set set on their a-- and did nothing to move progress. So for anyone who reads this post think what did you do to help the cause or did you just sit at the table and be fed like a baby bird. Far to long we look to our elders of the company stand up and fight back while we stayed silent and now they have retired. The river has run dry, this last generation did nothing to replenish it. I hope for the labor that the next generation will stand up and fight back.

Long ago, now I collect my pay check and do as little as possible, and while I can, no need to stress

Actually it depends upon your definition of success.

If success means maximizing your executive bonus and stock options for the next fiscal quarter then Yes, you might consider this success.

If success means building a successful long term business with happy, loyal workers, No.

If success means being a responsible and honest corporation in the USA, No.

If success means building a good name and happy customers, No.

If success means expecting workers to be loyal to a company that screws them over at every opportunity just for a buck, then Yes.
