Let's set the record straight. The last contract signed does NOT have layoff protection for EVERYONE in the Union.

These last jobs cut were in retail. The brick and mortar sales business is changing, not just for Verizon, but for everyone. A union isn't going to protect those jobs. There will be more cuts coming. If you cannot see that now, you aren't paying attention. It isn't a problem that VZW cut those jobs, they needed to. And will need to do more. It stinks, sure. But time moves on.
They had their chance and now it's over. If Verizon gets a whiff of organizing at a location they will just close that location.
Yes, the "smart ones" did organize years ago and now have jobs with protection. If they all walk off together and never go away, the company can not operate properly.
Verizon realized it's easier to deal with the Union than to not deal with them. Hence the members have jobs and are treated fairly.
The Wireless staff were invited and even pursued to join the Union and stand as one together, but they said we are the "smart ones" and don't need a Union like those dummies, We are highly educated and "marketable".

Union can't save these kind of jobs that anyone can replace. Verizon has the replacements ready to go if needed. They aren't scared of the union.
