Use the "RIF-DownTime" to work on your resume, use fax, printers.,view online job search sites, job interview calls, online training, ..ALL FREE ..etc. Maintain a "gotta go to work" attitude because you will need it in your next job. Go in maybe 3 days per week?
I wouldn't listen to those saying to go against what your boss tells you to do. The severance you sign is a gag order. It's horrible, but if you have a lot of years in the severance certainly is a tiny golden parachute for the working class. However signing it does not mean you don't have to listen to your boss. Good luck in your job search.
You have to stay on payroll until 12/19 to receive your full bonus for 2016. I'm fairly confident that if you are getting RIF'd in March you will need to also "work" those months to get your 2017 prorated bonus. Since this RIF is different from the 12/15 one I assume those in call centers will be expected to work.

LOL Your vacation time doesn't matter now, because you've been RIFd. The next 30 or 45 days are yours, paid. Do what you want to do. But don't use vacation time, fill out the severance form and make sure you opt to be paid for any unused vacation.

Not correct. If one is worried about that then once notified it's a simple walk out the door. The company is more or less telling you that on day X you are fired. In some cases RIFd workers will work until the end - those are mostly RIF volunteers, and some that have been asked to work up until the last day.
OP-so what I'm hearing is after you sign the severance then you can do whatever you want? IE: stay on "meeting", "personal",etc and ride the time out? Or does anyone know about staying at home and not coming into work?

Who actually does a full day of work at Verizon these days. Lots of people doing the same work but getting different results. Then need a third group to figure out why the other two groups of workers are getting different results.
This is ridiculous! Verizon is doing great! And they certainly don't pay much in taxes, they even got money back over the past few years. This 'consolidating" is just verizon cutting jobs, probably hiring overseas
This is crazy...Call the Hall, speak with your business agent and file a grievance immediately! They can't do this!
There must be other Wallingford employees looking at this. I have a plan. The center closes in March. The second we have our severance pay, we should bombard vzweb with ask Lowell questions, forum posts and idea hub entrees. Make a statement before we go. Something like, "this company is making near record profits. Why are there layoffs?"

The Verizon Wireless Wallingford, CT call center is having all of its customer service jobs eliminated (we have the "opportunity to continue our career in another call center" i.e. we can apply to other jobs. The closest center is either north carolina or ohio).
You actually have to work and everything be business as usual. I've been through it before and believe me they will find whatever to put you on corrective action and term you. I'd keep doing what you're doing to be safe
If you've been officially notified / received your package you no longer have to work.
