Anyone get called back after getting "surplused"?

After being laid off from AT&T in September 2015 I now get calls from outside recruiters wanting to look at contract jobs at AT&T. The recruiters promise long term contracts and I have spoken with a few that took the contracts only to have them cancelled 3 weeks later. The recruiters call every two weeks and the first thing going I as is of the client is AT&T. It is always AT&T looking for contract help. I always tell them no

No. Seriously there is a reason why you were surplussed...this isn't just shifting people around. This is reducing headcount, outsourcing positions.

I got called back on my last day on payroll after finding a job three weeks before. please don't hang your hat on that. Apply to what you contractually need to, but look outside. There are better companies than T..much better.

Yes, people who opt to stay and look for different positions within the company get called with job offers and sometimes the same position. Sometimes the same position in the same area, but sometimes in different areas where they have to relocate.

i cant speak for myself, but back in May/June when thousands in the entertainment group were surplussed, i knew 5 people who were surplussed and all of them were brought back by AT&T.

one of my friends had 3 offers within 2 weeks. He ended up taking a job with the same territory he had and he will actually be making MORE money than he prior job that was surplussed.

Like i said, i dont know if this is the norm, and im sure it depends a lot on which department you're in, but as long as you're in a decent location you should have options
