Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Was anyone else told they have 45 days to sign the severance agreement? Is this correct? Seems like a long time before you need to sign.

Take the money and Run. Dont drink the kool-aid. - There are no internal job openings.

The job listings you see were probably an agreement between the remaining manager and their friend who is on the RIF list. The applicant probably wrote the Job Requisition for the Manager to ensure it fits only them.

80% of your peers/coworkers dont care about you being RIFed and the other 20% are relieved it happened to you instead of them

I can't even bear to tell someone to sign that thing. No wonder my spouse signed it without leaving it for me to read. I just saw it a few weeks ago when i was sorting papers. You can have someone legal look it over, but it is long and thorough. No Disney mistakes that I could see. It gets things rolling when you sign it and that is about all the good I have to say on the matter.

Read the package carefully, a lot is boilerplate, so once you cull that out, it's easier to focus on the critical. Having seen prior packages (wife was a victim in a strong-performing unit that was shuttered), look for an option to waive the 30 days to find another position (unless you really think there's something to be found). If waive that right and immediately sign the agreement not to contest, the severance payout can be processed in 2016; this late in the year, much of it may thus avoid social security deduction of 6.2%. I read the severance doc recently (revised/updated end August), 2 weeks per year capped at 35 was in there, and believe health benefits were covered for the duration of the severance period (i.e. years service x 2, cap 35). Bottom line, read the doc carefully and good luck, there is life after VZ.

You have 45 days from your last day worked to sign it.

Yes 45 days to sign. 30 days to apply and successfully get accepted to another position. I'm being told different stories by managment and HR. HR says they will be posting the new RSS positions and we can apply for them but management seems to think if you were left over from the cuts you are taking the RSS role. They did not ask for my badge or keys or best device.
