Thread regarding AT&T Inc. layoffs

Corrupt

Sorry to say but, we as Service Executives are 24x7. Get scrutinized as well as told we are safe but know we are not. If we have a difference of opinion, we are told when we have meetings we are being insubordinate. We work hard and recently found out that our Director who has been schmoozing with our VP take out the leadership and are on a private boat. So sad. We know we are not anymore valuable than the next employee no matter what the title is but, have expectations of us as we fear termination through bullying. It,s hard because we are not union but have no avenue.

Legacy DTV employees are used to head down shut up. It doesn't seem like that's the criteria

Be invisible. That's how it works. Everyone knows there are 4 rules to keep your job at T.

I. Keep your mouth shut.

  1. Say yes to x even when the right answer might be y.

  2. Be seen and not heard (see #1, rinse wash repeat)

  3. Gang up on team members who might have better solutions. See them as the trouble makers. And express this to your management.

  4. Feel bad momentarily that #4 might get them on a layoff list. But hey if they're as good as they think they are they can find a better job.

Quote:"Only at t does having an opinion mean ur insubordinate"

Oh no, it's DTV culture before the merger. If you have different opinion than management AND express it, you would be considered as insubordinate and would be reported to HR for disciplinary action. That was DTV management style after 2004-2005. One director even said to engineers "Do what you are told. No opinion, not even discussion". That was the very reason why DTV system is out-of-date, no innovations, and was decided by AT&T management to be obsolete in favor of streaming.

AT&T, in fact, inherits DTV culture after the merger.

I've beleive it's either Google or facebook that has a team that does nothing but discuss/argue/shoot down good ideas. The ones they can't really refute get made. Thus they encourage differing opinions that sort of dissonance belongs in a tech company.

Only at t does having an opinion mean ur insubordinate. I've seen/heard this a million times. More bad culture. More things not getting made/improved. More money lost. More job cuts.

Bad culture is expensive.

It's that simple.
