Thread regarding AT&T Inc. layoffs

Not so Good

AT&T continues to deal with high "Cord-cutting” and "churn rates" has become the bane of T products existence, but the fast-changing face of consumer content is signaling dark days ahead for AT&T, as the option to avoid or drop video service has grown more appealing and more popular than ever lately. The Internet, mobile devices, TiVo, Netflix and other streaming services, and other major disruptions to traditional TV and home entertainment mediums were already hurting AT&T, But now, recent events have given rise to predictions that the era of dominance of AT&T may be coming to a close.

This news was followed by announcement of a deal to carryHBO Now exclusively on Apple TV,

And in the aftermath of the FCC’s adopting of strong Net Neutrality protections came rumblings

In short, the times they are a changin’, and not in AT&T's favor. To get a better grasp of just how dramatic all of this news is, and how much it’s changing the landscape of the future of content distribution and consumption,

Democracy Survey revealed a great deal of relevant data. For example, 37% of U.S. consumers today own the trio of tablets, laptops, and smartphones, a percentage that represents a 270% increase since 2010, I wonder if Randall can feel it closing up on him

Randy is a bean counter, he know nothing about technology or the industry, and continues to prove it every week that goes by.

His expertise is in outsourcing the jobs of American citizens.

It seems to me that Stephenson has decided that he wants to be google. And as impressed as he is with himself, he's NOT going to out-google google.

There is no one in AT&T's executive leadership team that is qualified to take this company into the future successfully.

They don't have what it takes.

I see Randy as an outsider (and not in a good way). Here he sits (as one thread highlights - on a plane "working his spreadsheets" for the next new buy) and you've got Reed Hastings (Netflix), Jeff Bezos (AZ), Elon Musk (Tesla/Space X), Sundar Pichai (Google), even Meg Whitman (HP)..etc. etc. reinventing their brands at rapid speeds.

I feel like any one of the above could turn this company around with less time than it takes to "work a spreadsheet". At this point, real creativity the kind ATT needs is harnessed over long periods of time. You can't pivot a leader into creating the next "Orange is the New Black" for streaming...Thats not taught.

The old guard at ATT were blessed with a lucky old school run. People needed POTs lines, they needed telephones/wireless devices. They needed some form of cable/broadband/internet connectivity. Now its so easy to get..Facebook is petitioning the government to give it away for free.

Its time for a guard change.
