WARN Act, howbis vzw getting around this?

It requires 60 days notice. Some of you are reporting only 30. Heres the definition......

The Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act (WARN Act) is a United States labor law which protects employees, their families, and communities by requiring most employers with 100 or more employees to provide 60 calendar-day advance notification of plant closings and mass layoffs of employees, as defined in the Act.

Does anyone have any more info the WARN act. Is it legal for Verizin to pay us 30 days instead of the 60. It is so said to be with a company 18+ years good attendance no write ups and just laid off. They have 4 - 5 managers in a store who do nothing but sit in the back. Instead of letting go of the people who really take a look if all the managers in one store. Has anyone got a class action suit against Verizon. Most people they let go was close to retire. Age discrimination it seems is going on.

They trickle the layoffs so the amounts in each state don't trigger the WARN notices. I wish everyone the best of luck finding a new, more positive work environment. I'm a white female, was let go Dec last year after 8 years with the company and found a good job. So relieved to be away from all the crazy decisions 'mgmt' was making and money wasted (anyone familiar with ICON every summer in Miami? Cost millions... hired Katy Perry, Maroon Five etc to perform at the 'sales competition'). Way to run a business...

Dit That is cool to get unlimited PTO. Hubby negotiated a third week of vacation. All of his friends have found work except for one who was caught totally by surprise. It's a lot easier looking if you have your degrees in order before you get laid off.

I've also been kicked out to the curve, 20 years plus, package is not what I expected for all the years of service I put out to the company, I've been physically sick due to the stress of this past few years since we became a smart store, I will be getting legal advice, I don't think what they have done to us is fair especially for us who has been for so long with this company.

WARN Act is done only when a significant percentage of employees are laid off within a State. Read up on the law before posting, you'll sound smarter.

pfy There is no getting back those 5 weeks of vacation. I'm not sure if you can set a price on that, but it is something of value beyond money.

if this is how they treat their employees, especially someone who has been with them for 20 years than we all deserve better. They tried to offer me a sale position and told them I don't want that. Right after I told them this I lost all access to about you Verizon online and my school log in, mind you they were paying for it. So i better not be getting a bill for something they caused.

I was part of last year's RIF of about 900. Be happy it's only 30 days. Get the hell out of there and be thankful for the opportunity you had. There is life beyond Verizon! Looking back, I thank them for cutting me. 18 years with them and they gave me a big old check to find a better job, which I did. I couldn't be happier with my new organization.

Im no lawyer.... but does it have to be the number of employees at that location, or in the whole company. If they violated this, seems like an easy class action.

They didn't, my position at the company was eliminated yesterday. I got the call and they just said not to come back to work. I will be receiving a severance package and I will still be on payroll until November 4

They keep people on payroll for 60 days to eliminate WARN notice.

How many wireless and where have you heard?

It's because the law only goes in to affect when a certain percentage of employees at a location are let go. Letting 1 or 2 people go from a store is not enough to trigger it.
