Thread regarding AT&T Inc. layoffs

Separation Questions 10.6.16

I'm too young to retire, in my 30's with 16 years service. Still debating what to do since I was informed I'm in an "affected workgroup". This is only the beginning of more to come from now through 2017. I get it, yes the company wants to shave down employees to ~100K and reduce expenses. Sad thing is they are still making money hand over fist and the big boys at the top in Dallas always win against the little guy!! Getting closer to being ready to move on.

My questions are...

1) Can you go exempt to get all of your $$$ for the severence and 2016 bonus check?

2) If you walk away and give an answer by the 11th are you still eligible for unemployment?

3) What happens to pension and 401K funds?

I was vested in the 401k and pension after 3 years. I can't see someone with 16 years not being vested. Fidelity is ok as far as FI's go but you should look into Schwab and Vanguard if you leave because they're cheaper. Good luck

You can request for Fidelity to give you your 401K if you want to cash out or you can roll your funds into another IRA, its your choice. If you decide to cash out you will have to pay taxes and a penalty around 10%, I would suggest talking to your tax person first. I'm sorry to hear that you are in a affected group... Good luck!

You ARE likely to get unemployment. I volunteered and left in June of this year and had no problem whatsoever getting it. Your. The severance paycheck stub will say 'invol sever' even if you do volunteer. It likely depends on what state you are in but I got it easily,

I was laid off in 2015. Heres what i can telk you. Neither HR nor your boss is your friend. I would not volunteer to be and off. Make AT&T do work on the layoff and if tbey lay you off then take the two months AT&The gives you to find another job outside the company. You can always go to AT&T interviews during the 2 months. Apply for AT&T jobs and go to the interviews so they won't deny your severance payout.

I'm fairly certain you need to be on payroll Jan 1 to be bonus eligible. I would verify that with your hr business partner before assuming otherwise.
