Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Layoffs are being rolled out to retail employees as we speak

Verizon Comm is rolling out layoffs to employees in one on one meetings throughout the day. All operations specialists and experience specialists face being laid of with a severance based on tenure. A new position is being created title Retail Support Specialist, but most are not getting that offer.

I have worked for Verizon 18 years and was laid off. I would like to see how many people who were 2-3 years from retirement was let go. Verizon needs to look up the word loyalty. Verizon could care less about their employees. Verizon could have offered employees who were within 5 years of retirement a early retirement keeping medical and phone service. But to Verizon we are just a number. I am so sad that I worked so hard for Verizon 18 years and this is how they treat us for our loyalty. They will never admit it but they are practicing age discrimination. Used you and throw you away all for the mighty dollar. Hope yoy guys can sleep at night

My guess is Verizon is such a large advertiser the press is ignoring the layoffs.

Huge impact in South Central Market. Not sure they are getting away with the large number of "protected" class targeted.

Everyone I know, myself included, we're all solutions managers in the role for at least 4 years, and all have families. None of the managers promoted this year were affected. It's like they cut everyone who was finally making decent money for their years of hard work, and just let go in time for Christmas. Thanks. I was in the process of trying to buy a house. Thanks, on behalf of my family. Perhaps I should just shoot myself before my life insurance expires.

Let go yesterday after almost 9 years my coworker was with company even longer. We both have kids gave our job to some hand picked baby that they transfered to our store all of the sudden. Gave everything to that company went way above and beyond. I've been Ops and experience for years so I don't know how all the sudden they are combining the roles I've already been doing 2 jobs. Every cycle count, box count, merchandise change, call out cards, shipments, push transfers, returns, greeting, tech support, that was me. And I'm told to hand in my badge and keys and walk out the side door. Scumbags

It's all about money to Verizon. We are just a number to them . They could care less about us and our families. I was let go yesterday as an OS. I think the reason some of us didn't get the new position is because they would rather pay someone less to do our jobs even if it means loosing someone highly skilled

Stabbed in the back is for sure when we OS's & ES'S were never offered the new positions they placed who they wanted in those new positions ( chosen favorites) so much bad sh-- is being ask to be done by managers and many many bad things being covered up by floating DM'S and DM's just to make NUMBERS at the expense of the customers.so sad to see things happening and you can't get anything done about.

2 of my coworkers, one 7 year tenure and one 20 year tenure were let go today as part of this insanity. None of our jobs are safe. They keep expecting more, adding more to our quotas and now are leaving us short staffed in a job environment that no one feels secure in. Just in time for Christmas coming down the road.

@JJVnFWD-1gqq welcome to the "I been burned by Verizon club"

They don't give a damn about you. If you are not on your knees servicing the people in building 4, then they will put you on your knees begging for food a job and health care.

I was laid off week ago. Took my severance and didn't look back. The company is a sinking ship. They want to screw over their sales reps by demanding more and more workload while increasing the quotas and the tech support wil be next with their push of TMP. Just remember those in wireless retail each time you sell TMP you're helping someone lose their job

I should frame my EWA letter and hang it next to my severance package letter to see if the irony is dense enough to form a black hole.

You guys have nothing to worry about. You are highly educated and your skills are highly sought after. Not to mention all of that extra money you have lying around from your EW assignment. I'm sure Lowell will give you a nice farewell letter thanking you for living the credo.

Remember, when you get the next board of directors ballot in the mail, VOTE NO for all of these worthless criminals that are killing the middle class, and sending more and more of us to the unemployment line every year, while they are laughing all the way to the bank.

Union stores were impacted as well. The union can't protect jobs like they promise! And they take your money while making bullshit promises! They are closing the union stores not just letting a few people go.

So thanks to Verizon, their stores will now all be short staffed for the holiday rush while their ES and OS employees, some having served the company for years, now have no job. Just in time for Christmas!

I agree . Retail employees should learn from this and join the Union. Myself a 6 year OS and others I know just got released.

And yes it's surprising noting is in the news besides this website.

A nationwide layoff and noting ... but last year when managers got cut and given until Dec 31st it was all over the news

Those Unionized workers yelled at us during their strike to organize, or your gone. They said this company is very unfair, and will stab you in the back. As I did their job, they said that's what they were fighting against. Tonight they stuck together, and have jobs, I'm stabbed in the back. with no job.

This company is the worst I have ever worked for. Could care less about us. We need to unionize to protect ourselves. We are now beyond short staffed for the holidays and they expect us to do more for less.

A lot of friends today lost there jobs who were with the company for almost as long as I have been alive.

Screw these idiots. North East market. Denise Cassidy and Kevin "is it 3 o'clock" area. Keep spamming Instagram like you didn't just sh-- can a ton of good people .

Cutting costs but I see a lot of money being wasted on bullshit no one wants or needs.

Confirmed. South Central Market - Gulf. 2 ES at my location were notified today and given option to apply for sales. I'm sure those open sales positions will go quick. OS in my area are changing to Retail Sales Support (RSS). 11/4 is final day for ES. Trust me, these are not rumors. Good luck to all. They should give more of a heads up to these people especially those who have dedicated so many years.

Estimates I've been seeing are between 6k-7k let go. Many of them long time employees. The less than 2 years Ops specialist at my store got to stay on.
