The company already knows that many employees are getting close to retirement age.
Why surplus people they know are leaving?
Why pay the severance required?
They will offer voluntary, then come back and actually surplus the employees that actually require less of a severance payment. This way they save cost and know the employees set to retire in a year will bring down head count naturally.
As for the "coding" aspect the market place is now saturated with kids who code it's as helpful as having a GED. The odds on retaining your coding job are very slim as it can be done overseas and the company can save the 28k they pay you. ( good luck paying for the over priced useless piece of paper on your wall)
An MBA with a CCNP/ CCNA? Doubtful, I am sure many of you know why..
The only way to get ahead in this company .is kissing serious a--, I am sure most of you can relate to that, I have personally seen very accomplished professionals discarded like trash, the rest of the story everyone lives it every day with such quality management, I.e., my area manager does not even have a college degree and she is in ATO, unreal.. SMH
The trolls are scared too. It's why the come here to antagonize. They just don't have the maturity to engage in meaningful convos.
Some people are dinosaurs when they are 25, fixed and narrow thinking with no understanding of change or the world they live in.
Some people are still fresh at 65 with an interest in the world and openness to learning new things.
Talking smack about someone because of their chronological age just shows how ignorant you really are.
But of course a management punk can be any age.

All the coding is done "off-shore" so why do we need coding knowledge for jobs in the USA.
software is great! please don't forget you NEED hardware to get the software to work! while you sit at your computer punching out code, just remember that there is people out on the poles in all types of weather to make sure that your computer is still connected to the world. while you are thinking that you are changing the world we in the field are changing the world. you can think that the world can go wireless, but you need the people, that you are trying to kill their jobs.....

I can't wait till you're 35-40, then NEWER stuff will be out and you'll have to learn new skills and be called a dinosaur too, moron. I'll put my skills against any 22 year olds anytime, idiot. I just finished my MBA with a speciality in automation and machine learning. I'm taking classes to educate myself on SDN and already have my CCNP/CCNA certifications. I joined the company out of college making amazing money for the past 3 years. My team is working on some great things and have had involvement in AirGig as well as some other recently announced offers like DirecTV Now.

Dinosaurs will be pushed out as most of you lack the skills needed for a software defined network. Outdated degrees with little to no coding knowledge.
