Thread regarding AT&T Inc. layoffs

WARNING DON'T SIGN ANYTHING UNTIL YOU READ THIS POST REGARDING THE VOLUNTARY PACKAGE

Don't have all the facts but am sharing what I do know. We have people in my group that signed up for the Voluntary Package, They were told that they would get the standard six months severance pay. They were called in today and told they would only be getting 3 months because it is voluntary (didn't you read the fine print) also no unemployment. One you sign you are locked in. JUST WANT TO GET THIS MESSAGE OUT TO AS MANY PEOPLE AS POSSIBLE. Don't become another victim. Nice way to end a 40 yr career.

So I thought in lieu of meant in place of unemployment. Which would make you ineligible because you chose severance over unemployment.

This needs to be made public, I bet at&t would back down if this hit the major press. Below is the email for the woman who writes all the articles in the Dallas News about AT&T

That's why this post was started to warn people before you became a vicim. They are not going by the traditional severance that is posted.

I'm confused now. Directly affected by this but picked "no". Have multiple peers that had planned to leave soon, they picked yes. They say they now have to be out by mid-Nov instead of 12/28 AND severance was cut in half. Can only say I've never been thru such a suspect FMP delivery.

Do something about it!, Ultimately, if you place your current work environment in the context of your present life and your future goals, that will make it easier to decide whether you should stick around in this job or whether it is time to move on, I can't understand how someone is rotting inside out working for this company, if you are not a "player", there are real companies out there hiring honest people

You CAN get unemployment even if you take a voluntary package. My wife's whole office was surplused in Texas after 17 years with the company. The HR bullshit artist working for the company told them that they weren't eligible for unemployment if they took the voluntary package. However, we did our homework and found that there IS a stipulation in the unemployment rules that's states YOU ARE eligible for unemployment even if you accept a voluntary package. If I remember correctly, you need to note in your application that you accepted the voluntary package "in lieu of unemployment". We literally found that stipulation on unemployments own website.

@1qra, that is the information on the Severence page for Managers, only whole numbers are listed.

I am assuming you mean "leeches", and it is your option to remain angry and insulting. However the company is attempting to allow our opinion into the equation. Many companies don't warn their employees at all, simply giving them a pink slip and a pat on the back. I am in an affected group as well, so am in the same boat as many. However you can't rage against the company for pre-warning us, unless you would have preferred to be blindsided.

1ubi, are you certain about the rounding? I was on a surplus call last year where HR stated the severance pay was prorated so in your example at 6 years and 5 months you would get approximately 24.42%

What a ridiculous post, 'Whether you check Yes or No on the survey does not affect either your severance or unemployment. It only mean that in a 'tie breaker' scenario, they may keep the person who said No and let the one who said Yes go." You seriously think the company wants leaches in their payroll

You can change your mind on the survey up until the 11th. 'Standard severance' is 4% of your annual income per year of service, up to 50%. Your service year is rounded by the date the company picks for your last day, which I heard to be approx Dec 27th. So if you have 6 years, 5 months of service on Dec 27th, you would only get the severance for 6 years, equaling 24% of your annual pay. If you have 6 years, 6 months of service, you would be paid as if you had 7 years, so 28%.

If you are eligible for unemployment in your state, you can get it. ATT does not stand in the way of unemployment.

Whether you check Yes or No on the survey does not affect either your severance or unemployment. It only mean that in a 'tie breaker' scenario, they may keep the person who said No and let the one who said Yes go.

I would caution anyone to advertise their willingness to separate from the company, certainly you will become a moving target, rather be invisible, that is the way you will thrive in this company

That can change anytime, it is a benefit, not a right

I spoke to my boss and my HR generalist this morning. Severance is still capped at 50% of Annual Basic Pay if you have 13 or more years of continuous service. You are also eligible to cash out any remaining PTO upon our exit date and you will also receive the team award (bonus) for 2016. If you search "severance" under One Stop, the latest mgt revision is dated 8/01/15.

Very odd and likely not true. I volunteered and left in June of this year and got 6 months as well as unemployment. The check stub actually said 'invol surp' All good, even great here. I had over 35 years. The amount of severance is determined by your years of service.

Careful when dealing with HR they are masters of disguise , they do notknow anything, they will take your questions and refer them to Legal , a total Con job

It only states "with severance benefits". It doesn't specify the amount. Plus it says you are not guaranteed severance. So glad I went with my gut. Always be cautious. Sadly we have come to a point that the company can no longer be trusted.

I read the latest severance package yesterday and it says it's still capped at 6 months dependent on years of service. I would suggest anyone considering voluntary to speak to HR first. They are expecting questions like this. I would also encourage to call Fidelity and HR to find out the impact to your pension if you are not at rule of 75.

This is a slick used car salesman move... but it's appropriate with the captain of the titanic. I'm so sorry this is happening to the affected. But I think you can rescend decision to volunteer for up to a week or two??? So hopefully those in this wave can read fine print and rescend given above.
