Thread regarding AT&T Inc. layoffs

Something to consider..

Many of us older folks who have worked for this company for many, many years have seen it go downhill and today's announcements of layoffs should come at no surprise. I am in a workgroup impacted by this and I've put in my interest in leaving the company because I'd rather leave now and take advantage of the current severance package then to wait for the next round under the new rumored severance package changes. I hope I get it!

They took out people from non-legacy. So much for WF2020 where ATT claimed they needed to retrain people because they could not hire them. On top of that, just a few weeks ago some contractors were converted to employee, and those folks and other new hires are protected. As far as I know there is no package. I wasn't offered one, but then I do not meet the rule of 75 either. I suspect I was put on the block because I am stuck as a work from home. The 60 days is a joke if the layoffs are across the board, because no one will be hiring. The only thing that is going to save me is volunteers. I know those eligible for retirement didn't get the surplus notice.

They are targeting people who are retirement eligible first.

Yep, it's the same old game. Offer a carrot, with the implied threat that if you don't take this carrot, the next one won't be as tasty.

For what it's worth, I said no to the Interest in Leaving survey. As far as I can tell, it seems to have little impact either way. If I get lucky and keep my job, another year of steady employment beats a six month severance package.

Place your bets!
