Thread regarding AT&T Inc. layoffs

Management surplus

I know there are alot of good managers losing their jobs today but there are also alot that should have long been gone, they have hung on for years, doing nothing, Birmingham Wholesale prime example, well kept secret and I hope they are targeted

Donovan's group got nailed. So much for the lie of retraining on WF2020 because AT&T claims they cannot hire enough people. It'sh--ting all places, even Texas.

With a CAT4 storm hitting east coast, might not be the best time to layoff network guys.

Network Operations...management in regan's organization are affected. Have 5 days to for voluntary separation...if they don't achieve # with voluntarily they will move to involuntary. No additional incentives offered to volunteer to leave.

This was only the start. It also covered 80 crafts as well. IEFS and TFS probably will not make it to 2020. At least not in the state of AL.

The whole original idea is to get work force under 20k. That's management and craft. That was the idea long ago when bell south merged with ATT back in the day.

ATL is the only safe place, but it's even been hit with surplus.

Guys, there was always someone holding the seat down before you came to town. I agree that it is time for many to go but yesterday was just a purge. Older people are a protected class just like people of color. I saw many of them hit yesterday. If we look at how many old guys and people of color were taken out I think we would be surprised. There are ways of doing things and thoughtless ways of twisting numbers to meet quota. RESPECT of people and fair treatment is what I am talking about. Helping skilled people to find jobs and not let them find their own job... Deals in the dark.. or as we say in the south, the Good Old Boy path. That should have gone away with Tom Crow, but if you are honest you know its there.

There was a "rumor" that AT&T was declaring a management surplus yesterday. From your post apparently the rumors are actual facts. I'm not a manger, but curious as to what departments were impacted. Certainly with the shift2020 initiative they should have seen this coming. However many managers are oblivious as to what the company is REALLY saying when they speak of workforce 2020
