Thread regarding Follett layoffs

Need to vent to a sympathetic ear....

I really have to get something off my chest, but I fear retribution. So I am going to tell my story with as little details as possible but hopefully to the full affect of how I feel screwed over.

I had an opportunity at my store to make a deal with my school to sell a ton of a certain product. I worked everything out with the school and then told my buyer what I needed. The buyer (and the buyers boss) would not place the full order out of fear of lack of sell through and mark downs. I begged and pleaded, even to my RM. I was shot down by everyone. So Follett placed a minimal order.

Needless to say, as I predicted, we did not have enough product and I had to face our customers and the school as to why this endeavor failed. You all know how that goes..

Afterwards I wrote an email to my RM and buyer. The strongest language I used was that I was "disappointed" and that I feel "totally unsupported". (And resisted "I told you so"). WELL, apparently my buyers boss didn't like my tone and my RM said his/her feelings were hurt.

So I re-read my email, thinking I did something egregious... but all I did was tell facts.

How is it that this got turned around and made me out to be the bad guy when it was all Follett's fault in the first place? I can't say I am disappointed and feeling unsupported when Follett didn't support the money making deal I made? The deal I made by going doing outreach to my campus? By doing what Follett expects of a manager?

Huff....

I would email Bob School and Ray Griffith I bet you will find more interested people in why we are seeing sales declines despite opportunities abound. Don't ever shy away from standing up for yourself and also just Bcc any emails to your personal home email for reference later if they screw you so you can sue their petty asses if they try to fire you for doing your job.

They should not worry about hurt feelings or tones - this is business. They should worry about lost sales and financial performance for Follett - under plan. RG has been asking employees to speak up and make a difference, improve Follett's situation. Apparently it is just talk...as it has been for the past four years. You are not alone, good ideas are raised by Follett's talented employees only to be shot down by managers in higher positions. The store personnel are truly the most knowledgeable about what will sell on campus. Hang in there and try not to let it ruin your attitude working here, although that is typically what happens. Follett could write a book on how to turn good employees into disengaged employees.

If they didn't feel exposed, they wouldn't make a big deal out of it. You exposed them. If anything, they may be a little frightened of you now. Save everything.

That being said, Follet is a stink pile of feces and things even less wholesome. Get out.

Remember, according to Sr. Management, YOU own it. It's your fault for failure. You own their bad decisions and you should feel bad. They never fail.

Follett is no longer a decent place to work. Management continues to fail. Good luck looking for a new job.
