Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Just want to vent

I posted this in a different post but felt it needs it's own page.let me state I am not anti union I'm just upset at my union.

These union jobs for post 2003 hires are in name only. We get no pension, no job protection, work EVERY Saturday can't get ANY vacation days have to wait 7 years b4 an extra week off, harassed by union members because we want to enjoy our lives so we take sold time work the worst shifts and pay union dues! The ONLY benefit we have is we get paid decently per hour but what good is that if EVERYDAY you go to work thinking today might be the day you get fired! Is it all the unions fault? MOSTLY because they cared about themselves and not those who would come after them. In Solidarity my @$$ Some offices are closed weekends and after 6pm while some work til 9 and every Saturday. I get it "you did your time" thats a poor attitude to have how bout u do it NOW not 20 years ago when you had the best job on the planet! Only selling Long distance and caller ID. LOL. I was on the picket line 7 weeks in support of the people who were really sacrificing because they have families and I was cheated a summer because our unions worked out a plan to have us back to work the day we become eligible for unemployment! What a joke. I'll take the EISP if it's offered I have the skills, education and experience to do something else. The strike should have gotten us something. For that we could have stood at work, 7 weeks of salary I will never be able to recoup. And the union has the gall to question some people why they weren't on picket duty? Hey Union can you hear me now?

Well stated!

And this from a former manager whose pension benefits were raped by the company because they failed to adequately manage the pension assets and underfunded NYNEX's pension.

A manager's retiree health care 'benefit' costs $30,000 per year. Not much of a benefit.

This is why so many managers with any serious time in service backed the union during the strike and still do. The company had hoped to screw them just like they screwed all of the managers.

Union is weak? Doesn't make sense to be in a Union? Where have you been fool? the Union just shoved Verizon's Last, Best and final offer right up there you know what. Again Last---Best---Final. i don"t see how they could have made it any clearer. The Union said No and Won.

You see it's loser's like you that just post non-sense to get people going, but you post takes the cake for idiocy. Here's one Verizon to open first wireless store on Mars...How's that?

I agree with the OP. The reason you are in the position you are in is because your Union is weak, they are In It for themselves not for the workers just like Verizon looks out for themselves. It doesn't make any sense to be in the union and pay union dues and not Get the same benefits as the others, it really makes no sense but unions are a dying breed and it is because of the unions greed.

Let me get this straight....You weren't hired before the other people, so your complaining about their compensation? They were hired before you, that's it. and probably by different people. You should be thankful you have a job, and you were even hired at all. Look at all the money you made since you were hired, and all the things you bought since then. Have you used your medical benefits? How's your 401K looking matched dollar for dollar. Ask yourself would you be in the position in life you are now without your job at Verizon? Answer that question honestly. You sound like the definition spoiled brat.

You receive very good pay. VERY GOOD. And you have benefits partially paid for. That alone is good.

That being said. If the union gets stronger by collecting more wireless workers, they will be in a position to strengthen post 2003 workers' contracts. You won't ever get a pension, but other issues may be addressed.

There are a million Indians waiting to steal your job as soon as they can get an H1B to come over and work in the CO. Not every job can come to them.

The union and Verizon sleep in the same bed, period. I love the guy who stated that Verizon can no longer afford to pay you like the guy that sits across from you. Are you fu(king kidding me? This company keeps burning through billions on nonsense, yet you're still drinking Lowell's Kool-Aid. As for the comment that there are a million people that would gladly take the job.....Well, where are they? Anyone who has actually worked in a call center and experienced the stress, harassment and favoritism that goes on, knows that it is without a doubt one of the most difficult jobs out there. In our building alone, over the past 15 years, I've seen a thousand people come and go, either because they we're unjustly fired or because they could no longer take the harassment. What's the unions response to all of this? File a grievance. F U Verizon and F U union. Both of you are criminal organizations as far as I'm concerned.

OP says...."I was cheated a summer because our unions worked out a plan to have us back to work the day we become eligible for unemployment! What a joke."

I lost all, and complete respect at that point, not that any of it made sense. This guy is completely delusional, and very ungrateful. In fact he doesn't even want to work , This cry baby wants it all handed to him. The "jokes" on you moron, you sound like a fool. I have one word of advice for you, and i hope you take it.....QUIT.

Please leave.....Go find another job that pays you what Verizon pays you, with the benefits Verizon gives you, and your family. Leave tomorrow. You are so ungrateful you don't even deserve this job. Also do you really think Verizon wants to pay you what they're paying you with the benefits if the Union didn't fight for that. Without the Union you wouldn't even be here you brat.

Quit today then you spoiled rotten cry baby! I hope Verizon hires someone a lot better than you.

To the original poster, I suspect you are in the CSSC. I understand your point of view, but take a look at what the company wanted to take away, then what you have. For me I had a plan B and worked the days I did not work the picket line. The post 2003 folks still have protections in my eyes being if they just lay us off they would be committing public relations suiside. Wish you the best and I too hope for a Special EISP and hope they include the CSSC being that is the group I am in. The sooner the better. I am hoping with all the hiring of new people at starting rate and reduced vacations they will offer one to the CSSC in October which is a rumor I am hearing.

The expected response from likely a pre 2003 "union brother." But if the shoe was on the other foot, his tune would change. What the pre 2003 ppl need to remember is these post-2003 "coworkers" will be the ones likely bargaining when the pre 2003 folks are the retirees(in the very unlikely scenario that the union still exists at that point!).

There is literally a million people that will take your problem away from you if your that unhappy. I understand your frustration that your co-worker is not on an equal footing as you, but times are changing, and so is the job. The people that were here before you, Verizon just can't afford anymore.

You have a great job with excellent benefits, and excellent pay. Stop looking across the table at someone else plate, and complaining that their pile of food is higher than yours. There are people with no food at all.

You are very replaceable at that table by the way.
