Thread regarding AT&T Inc. layoffs

Entertainment Groups will get it again...

Our C+ team received a briefing this morning and we can now prepare for more cuts to come. The HR and CFO readout states we must target another 12% reduction in headcount in 2017 and make budgets to align. Let's just say that purchasing DTV was the worst decision the board ever made. The total incompetence of the El Segundo management team is unparalleled across any merger previously undertaken. They are clueless about technology and mobility media. They are furthermore hard to work with, and even condescending and nasty. Let's get this clear: They do not represent our culture nor the good people of at&t. They are worthless and Just a bunch of liberals on the West Coast that will never fit in. Good riddance. The Atlanta mobility leadership is perfectly fine without them. It also stated more of the CA team has to relocate and integrate into other locations. CFO added a 40% bump in relocation expense into the 2017 budget. On page 7 of the report by pwc there is a paragraph that Dallas will increase space due to an influx of executive management form El Segundo to Akard Street - wherever that is. Sorry for the rant but after 27 years from Bell South/T to this...it's terrifying to watch the company self destruct internally. Just a rant with another downsizing to come!

You never worked for DTV. You're an AT&T legacy employee.

Just admit it.

I worked for DTV for more than 10 yrs and I know for facts everything the original poster said is correct. AT&T needs to clean house, get rid of bad apples in order to survive. Just look at DTV payroll: 3/4 of DTV employees are managers, directors or executives, only 1/4 are real workers. Even DTV HR admitted DTV was "top-heavy" ! And they are incompetent, at best.

I am surprise they are still around until now. It's probably due to the "old boys/sisters" network. Just get rid of the top, replace with "turn-around" experts and you could trim those dead branches out. I bet one could surplus 1/2 of DTV without affecting a thing.

Question: Why did Uverse fail?

Answer: Because it was created by AT&T employees.

Yes, the good people of AT&T (as in washed up backstabbers) need to rally together to defeat the DIRECTV menace by reporting to Peachtree HR when those pesky west coast employees show up late to work!

As if DIRECTV employees--you know, the ones that worked hard to create arguably the best video product in North America (if not the world)--needed more evidence of AT&T's awful, wretched culture.

I was also questioning why TV company people should be mobility experts all of the sudden? Seriously, that whole statement is ridiculous. While not perfect, DIRECTV was always a "take care of your employees, and they will take care of your customers" company. I'm sorry that legacy AT&T folks never had the same kind of experience. There is a reason that DIRECTV employees never unionized UNTIL NOW. AT&T does not subscribe to this position. You cannot outsource nearly all customer support and control quality. I don't have an MBA, but even I can figure out that won't work. Also, as a legacy DIRECTV employee it was laughable when we get an email about a whole 4 point jump in NPS. While not perfect, DIRECTV doubled their NPS to lead the industry with a positive score in the high 30s. Our closest competitor? Verizon. So, you can imagine our distaste for a leadership that basically continues to polish the same turd. I don't think it's whining that's happening. I think that the culture of AT&T is so toxic that people from both companies are just sick from it. Meanwhile, the bums at the top just get richer and richer....

Thats funny stuff, ATT - a mobility company and not a great one at that comes in with an FAILING UVERSE televsion product, buys the best there is and you state DTV is the problem? All I can say, DTV was a great place to work, now that ATT has come in there is chaos and stress of being laid off along with many of your employees being rude as hell.. You expect a TELEVISION company to be experts in mobility??? DUMB. On the customer end, ATT s---s. On the DTV side ATT takes existing customers, opens them a new account under a slightly different name"spouse" "last name first" etc for an almighty dollar, check your attitude and think about retirement jerk.

The original poster sound like a first-rate loser who is coming to the end of his career. He's also probably a giant moron, given his wonderful blanket statement about DIRECTV employees.

I'm surprised the idiot could even figure out how to post.

Both AT&T and Direct TV management threw employees under the bus for a buck. Leaders throw us all in glass cage and see who makes it out.

This is a sad and piss-poor conversation. My leaving was perfectly timed. I'm truly glad to leave this mess behind. My parting advice, even though not asked for: grow the hell up or find another job. Cya!

Waaah, look, at all the tattletales in Atlanta and Dallas crying about big, bad El Segundo. Could it be a case of over the hill losers knowing they have no skill set and trying to instigate a culture war, in a lame attempt to salvage their floundering careers?

As a DTV employee, I'd like to say "piss off, you overweight Texan." You purchased the best video provider in the country and you'll undoubtedly wreck it.

Again blame everyone except for those responsible for where we are now. Who is left to blame? Mexico because AT&T bought into wireless there? Slovakia because AT&T is outsourcing to them ? IBM because AT&T sold the managed and hosting services to them? Uverse because the subscriber base is declining ?

It's really bad. My D band is from DTV and totally incompetent and knows absolutely nothing about our mobility technology and products. "it" will be gone. I've already reported "it" to HR. We all know that when an A-C reports a D, or E they go on the "watch list". So if you have problem, be sure and report it especially if you're in Peachtree. HR is full aware. The stupid bozos won't even get to work before 11:00 AM. Half the day is gone. We sure as hell aren't going to accommodate them. lol

Just reading below id like to caution the us vs. them position. It's distracting all of us from who the real problem is. His name is said enough here and throughout many of these threads. Lets not fight each other because a true leader would seek to blend the best of each companies and set a cooperative tone even through the tough times of a merger. He can't do that because that's not his wheel house. Culture is too touchy feely. Airy fairy for him. Stop the fighting.

I thought the T-Mobile failed deal was the worst. Iusacell was bad too. And just think Yahoo was the "almost" deal. But I'm inclined to agree DTV may top them all. It's really surreal to argue about ehst the worst failure is/was.

I think the board is starting to perk up and pay attention. Randall needs to go.

I hate to say this but with all his failed strategy it's starting to look like sabatoge, like he's purposefully tanking this company. He presents himself as super smart. If rather think he's doing this on purpose than being really really dumb and disconnected.

Wow what a IDIOT....Direct Tv was a good company! Now with AT&T mucking with it and it puts in their backward a-- management people in.....it will head on a on downward direction as the T has for years!! AT&T needs to stop placing blame on others and clean house starting with their own screwed up management!

The first comment is typical bs that the company wants all legacy s employees to believe. I came from legacy AT&T and we get blamed for Randall's decisions. The company has learned to turn us against each other so that we won't focus on the poor decisions made by the executives on up. Unless you drop the biased approach the upper management will continue succeeding being the puppet master.

Wow. You blame the DIRECTV people and insult the employees in California with your political ignorance and hatred, and then you complain about bad culture?

You do realize that this merger was AT&T's idea, right? You do realize that the old DIRECTV executive management has been replaced by AT&T guys, right? You do realize that the dysfunctional culture is coming from Dallas, right?

No, of course not. You're an ignoramus.

Look, the next time you want to make a completely stupid rant you ought to try doing it in front of the mirror, in order to be sure it goes to the right person.
