Thread regarding AT&T Inc. layoffs

Like, did anyone get a job internally after surplus?

You heard, "we're gonna do everything in our power to help you find a new position"

"this isn't your fault it was territory based"

"you get priority for interviews as a surplused employee"

WHAT A JOKE!!!

I'm sure that was the ARSM and Director script that was handed out to all markets...."when they look depressed say these 3 things"

Soooooooo......lets hear from someone who actually got a job!

I was a part of the surplus in 2015 and applied for other jobs internally and was told by a director that I knew personally that my service record was impeccable but I made too much money and his group couldn't take the hit on the budget. They could hire 2 managers and a leader intern for what I was making (SMH)

I just got a new supervisor based a few states away. One that has no idea what we do. The former supervisor was just moved into a Level 3 position because that's basically where he was with AT&T. He's a micro-managing jerk who talks out of both sides of his mouth. Guess that's why he was welcomed by AT&T. What a joke. Give me a surplus/severance option so that I know I can deal without a paycheck for a few months, and I'd gladly see this new company in my rearview mirror.

The center ( Chicago )just lost 32 people and HR told them to view a video for questions on where to get unemployment information. Real nice.

We have HR people in our building that outright refuse to help with anything because they are not our regional HR? WTH? This makes no sense. Why are they still here then? What function do they possibly serve? How about a nice HR surplus? That would be nice!

Wake up! the HR people are told to lower numbers and moving you to a new job does the opposite. the IT group in my building was totally dumped ( 65 people) and all were told to apply for internal jobs. From the discussions in the group, NONE received any interviews that were promising. At the end of the 60 days, all were gone. People were not happy and the people in the other groups avoided getting into conversations or even asking how it was going. HR people were also missing and once the letters were given they were always on a call or out of town.

Think your ok? People are being told their group is ok. Again this is all bull. Engineering has been demoting directors after they dump people in their group. Is that a reward for doing what they were told?

Responsibility, history, dedication, work ethics, Family, accomplishments of the Bell System, all down the drain with the idiot leadership who are absolutely clueless.

I have less than 10 years so severance wasn't fat lol... But I also decided to take my fate into my own hands. I considered internal, but wasn't getting any bites at all. Started to take it personally, but when I started to get a bit of outside interest, I figured it wasn't me.

You said the best thing possible....you found a new job in 4 weeks making considerably more. Hopefully you're a long time employee with a fat severance check as well.......

HR (those assigned to this process) is clueless and lazy during surplus. I actually think this as part of their duties is rather depressing which is why they aren't engaged, knowledge or helpful?? Can't figur that out. On our call a few months ago someone arbitrarily decided we'd only have one call. Not as stated weekly on the flier.

And let's face it surplus comes with stigma. HR does ask that hiring mangers consider surplus employees, but there is designation in the system that denotes the "s" status and frankly I believe many believe that those surplused generally aren't top performers (that's a real and often wrong perception).

I did not find a job internally. But it only took me 4 weeks to find a better job making considerably more. And I'm happy. I sleep better etc.

I honestly don't think surplus was designed to find people jobs internally. And you can't fix perception and the stigma that's not talked about.

Las time I talked to an HR representative , I was appalled about their lack of knowledge about the actual layoff process! I was shocked and disappointed , "This are the people that are going to guide us"..? what an embarrassment!!!

I've spoken to at least one hiring manager that I trust and he confirmed surplussed employees are given priority for interviews, but not necessarily for hiring.
