Thread regarding Follett layoffs

Just saw an article saying NYC is closing its public college bookstores, replacing with web stores

http://www.politico.com/states/new-york/city-hall/story/2016/06/cuny-to-close-bookstores-on-some-campuses-102734

I wouldn't be surprised if my system decided to do the same.

This really is big news. At my campus Purdue, Amazon has opened up this exact model. It will be interesting to see if Amazon bids on these contracts.

I am not sure this is the model of the future, or if the model of the future is web based sales with the low cost provider typically winning.

Follett and B&N are in trouble. Although it is interesting that Follett/B&N will pay on average 13-15% commission for an on site bookstore, but online only will be considerably less.

It turns out that Follett was way ahead of the competition with its Varsity book purchase 15 years ago, and classbook.com now.

Follett saw this coming and it's why we bought Advanced Online down in Texas. Problem is we don't have any strong leadership down there. But then we don't really have strong leadership anywhere in the company right now. Keep chugging along on this choo choo train until we slam into a mountain face and come off the tracks completely. Won't you ride along in oblivious complacency with me? Seems to be working for a lot of "leaders" on the 9th floor by golly, but I think it's just more Follett folly.

Link worked just fine for me. You're not trying to open it from a Follett workstation, are you? 😉
