Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

In my team, it was obvious it was the bottom 5 percent

My team let two go today, in IT, and as soon as I heard I realized it was going to be less work for me. These two were awful, 1/2 my time was spent going back and fixing their mistakes. Now, our team can just do it correct from the beginning instead of having to see what they did, nuke what they did and rewrite it ourselves, and repeat.

They were both H1B's as well, so I don't really see any bias from that aspect. They both just really s---ed at their jobs and made everything harder. I am convinced now after the past 4-5 years that "restructuring" is just a code word for getting rid of the dead weight. In 6 years we have lost more then a few people, but work has always gotten easier after they have left. Same situation this year.

I'm over 60 with over 15 years and numerous awards and consistently great ratings. Your comments are insulting to those of us who were let go and took pride in their work. You have a shameful absence of empathy.

SBG. You are full of sh--. I've been with Cisco 20+ years and am over 60 years of age. Never once in the 20+ years was there any hint of performance issues (both at Cisco and previous companies I worked at). This round seems to be more about age than anything else.

How utterly insulting to lump all that were laid off into that category. Sure some were, others had projects or products eliminated. As another poster said, I'll let others judge if I was bottom 5%. 18 years of experience at Cisco with almost all of them being rated in one of the top categories, being recognized several years in a row as one of the top managers in Cisco back when we did pulse scores and my employees expressing so much outrage that I was being let go, that even though they weren't impacted they've already started a new job search because the "the only reason they stayed was out of loyalty to me". Gives me reason to believe I wasn't.

However I can say with certainty that other members of my team also impacted were some of my best performing workers. While some groups it may be for performance, there was a lot of politics in other groups.

I'll let someone else comment on whether or not I would be considered one of the bottom 5%. I don't think so but I'm not going to quibble. I will note that over the course of the day I've had a significant number of people I respect reach out to me and express their regret that I was hit and to express their opinion that I will be a loss to the team.

That said, I will speak to others who were hit in my group. One was one of the sharpest Python people I've ever met. I'm inclined to believe that there was a degree of politics involved in choosing who got cut, the allegations of a degree of racism have a certain credibility given the makeup of the team and the races of those who were cut.

I dunno. What I do know, fortunately, is even before getting started on my search, I've got several strong leads, so I'm not feeling too bad right now.

Have you heard of C3...that's all going to Bangalore. The databases will migrate over to SAP Hana.

Next month quietly another 2375 will be let go.

This will be a continuous process to get to where the board wants....improved productivity.

first round is usually dead weight and very new hire guys.

this won't be a one round thing.

but it won't be 5%, the 14000 number leaked is more accurate.
