Thread regarding ConocoPhillips layoffs

Brace yourself, drones

As if everything else going on right now weren't enough...guess what our omniscient, monolithic, bloated, fascist IT bureaucracy has in store for all of you worthless automatons who can't be trusted to do your jobs without their Proper and Total oversight? (even though they don't have the slightest f---ing clue what goes on in the real world to get hydrocarbons out of the ground in order to pay their utterly f---ing unnecessary salaries)

Big Brother "ve vill vatch your every move, schveine!" spyware called, so laughably, "Digital Guardian" is coming your way. It was forced, unannounced, on IT personnel this week, and will be coming very soon to a PC near & dear to you.

Words to the wise...this Orwellian monstrosity will be promoted as a means of preventing the malicious "escape" of mission-critical, proprietary data out of the company. Since there are, in reality, very few still in our ranks with the ability, ilk or inclination to engage in meaningful industrial espionage at this point (mainly because COPC is nowhere near the bleeding edge of E&P technology, and not likely to return there before stupidity-induced disintegration occurs), this isn't really what you should be concerned about. In all fairness, the locking-down of data is most definitely one of DG's capabilities...but, watch the birdie...be very aware that DG can log every keystroke, every mouse click you make. Every program you launch, every website you visit. Every copy-paste you make. Every file you copy to a folder or attach to an email...every virtual action you take will very soon be recorded for review by steering committees and talent management teams to determine if you should be included in one of the many, inevitable, upcoming purges post Sept 2016.

Seriously? Yes, f---ing seriously. We're billions of dollars in the red lately, and some stratospheric (and unnecessary) bureaucrat decided that it would be a fabulous idea to spend vast sums of money (which we have to borrow at this point) on bullshit like this...

Yes, really...

Don't worry, nobody in IT is smart enough to monitor it. I worked there for 5 years in IT and couldn't believe how inept most of my coworkers were. There were a few smart people but those that are capable have so much more to do then watch what people are doing on the Internet.

Well...

Even though DGA is being promoted as "data escape contagion preventOr ONLY, and NOTHING else...we promise...cross our hearts & hope to include you in the next round of layoffs to preserve our own meaningless jobs...smiley face, 'cuz we really mean it!"...you should probably be a bit skeptical of that premise...

The inherent keystroke logging capabilities of the full DGA suite should be more than a bit worrisome to one and all. If you don't believe They would do such a thing...right-click on your task bar (after the DGA install) & select "Task Manager". Click on the "Services" tab. See anything running that begins with "OpenIT..." in the list of services? Any of those service names cause you any concern? And/or give you any doubt as to the "we're only looking to prevent data leaving the company, we promise" propaganda?

Be aware of this...if you check your bank account from work, or do anything financially or otherwise personal from COPC computers...even though it is incredibly illegal for COPC to keystroke log such things...well, guess what? The DGA install you just performed makes it possible for them to do exactly that. But, trust them...they're only trying to prevent industrial espionage at the highest levels & would never use your personal information for themselves or against you..

Smiley face.

So...coming soon to an identity theft nightmare near you...DGA is recording all of your keystroke/clicks, and some worthless f---ing IT bureaucrat (or whichever eastern European hackers breach the swiss cheese defenses of COPC prior to that) will soon be using your (you thought secure) personal user names & passwords to every personal thing you've engaged in from a COPC computer any which way (but responsibly) they choose...before you can say "LifeLock!"

World's largest independent E&P, b--chez! Fit for purpose!!

Social media is to be embraced not banned - learning about your coworkers, customers and suppliers on LinkedIn and Facebook is good business.

Holy Sh--e.......you would think someone smarter than a bucket of hammers in the ELT can figure out how to get McAfee to stop scanning for virus' every damn afternoon at 1pm?

Hopefully, DGA can speed that process up a bit.

Facebook? You've been to worse sites than that, my friend. Just make sure to delete your browsing history................

Why are you visiting FaceBook during company hours? You should be using work time to be working, not partaking in social media.

While I don't doubt this info, I find it hard to believe that COP will care how often its employees visit Facebook.

I believe you. My laptop prompted to restart my machine this morning because it was trying to install a program called DGA, I forget the version number though. Upon investigation, I discovered the program was Digital Guardian Agent. So I then did a Google search and believe what you wrote about logging keystrokes, monitoring web sites visited, and I wouldn't put it past COP to be actively monitoring what you write in emails. The morale of the story is to be sure to use your work computer for only work related activities. Save the posts to layoff.com until you get home and then you can use your home computer!
