The new IT dashboard is actually a cover for more employee monitoring. When you open your own IT Dashboard, whatever information you can pull there can also be accessed by your supervisor, and, in turn, your supervisor's supervisor and so on.
This is a new dashboard, and my guess is this is where real-time IP information will be available at any given moment. It's not available yet, but my sense is this IT dashboard will eventually be updated with the IP address currently in session and then there will be some sort of indication if this is an IP address which is owned by the HPE network or not.
A supervisor view includes all the information you can see on your own IT Dashboard, with the exception of the actual calls placed through Skype. However, there is a "button" to view this data already established which means IT is in the process of adding that functionality as well. I don't see any place on the dashboard (supervisor view as well) where there is a segment for IP or connectivity, but I bet this is where the rumor is coming from - that perhaps some manager heard from IT or some other source that this will be added.
For now, I would not use Skype for personal calls. Period. Use your personal cell phone. Keep an eye on your own IT dashboard. If you see IP / connectivity added to the dashboard showing you the IP address through which you are logged in, then your supervisor has the same view.
Personally I think this would be as much for HPE to determine how many hours someone is actually working, but that could also backfire on the company for hourly paid employees. It would just be more of the culture Meg Whitman has created for control over employees.
I will say all of this - badge swiping dashboard; Skype phone call view; etc., - has prompted me to start interviewing with other companies. Strong candidates are jumping ship. Especially when you factor in the fact HPE is up for sale.
