Thread regarding Follett layoffs

Damaging Games

I have been gone from this awful company for a while now. What was done to me whike I was there was so unbelievable. If I allow myself to think about the offenses I begin to feel suicidal. I woke up this morning feeling the weight of it for some reason. The whole situation is a reflection of the world we live in. Walk all over people for your own gain. I hope everyone who gained job security and received their financial gains through torturing me feel good about themselves. I unfortunately am left wanting to die in order to avoid having to remember all the hurt I went through.

Follett didn't hire, nor did they fire my soul. My soul is fine. It's my home, my checkbook, my kids college and my retirement that worries me. I was continually told I was doing a great job for more than 20 years. All of sudden, I'm on trial? WTF? I didn't decide to ignore online bookselling, 10 years ago. I don't by irrelevant books by the truck load! I do,, however, do the work of 4 full time people for less money and fewer benefits. I don't do that because my soul is lacking. I do that because I'm over 50 and I need this F__&^ing job!

Everyone will be fine. We go through trials for a reason. Search your soul. Come up with a new direction. You may be over 50 but you're not dead!

I don't care about Follett or the job really. I was heartbroken to find out how desperate my co workers and so called friends were. I know karma balances everything. I dont mourn the loss of my job. I mourn the loss of friendships and dislike my inability to trust anyone from Follett past or current due to what I was put through. It's just a lot. No one will ever understand all the bull sh!t I was put through. I can't even wish the same on those who were involved. I really can't.

Isn't it amazing that, even though there is a clear pattern of dispatching employees over 50 (with long term follett experience), no lawyer will touch an age discrimination case? Lawyers I spoke with said they needed a smoking gun memo or email demonstrating their intent to fire based on age. As long as management were merely abusive a holes, that was withing their rights. It was within my rights to find another job. Something about that stinks.

You have lots of company. They targeted long term employees. I had over 20 years with the company when I was let go. In many ways I am glad to be gone because it was no longer a good place to work.

Yes, it sure isn't easy to find a job after 50. Too old for entry level lol, and companies think you're not going to make it because of your age. I've seen that age discrimination many times. I too stuck with Follett only to be dumped in the end, over ten years in, over fifty years old. Crippling depression, trying to find the light again after looking for a year. Karma will catch up to them in the end. That's what keeps me going.

I put my life into Follett only to be laid off at 51 years old. So difficult to find a comparable job at this late stage of my career. When I was younger I received a few offers from other companies and turned them down because I like Follett so much.

You folks not only hurt me but you ruined any chances of my kids getting a good education. no one wants to hire someone over 50. Thank you, you know who you are.

The day my position was eliminated a wise woman said to me "Remember, you are not your f*cking job." She knew from experience, having been unceremoniously driven out six months earlier. Best advice ever.

Follett took much more from me than an association with a university I loved. Their betrayal will color the professional relationships I have for the rest of my working life. I knew if I worked hard and did my best I would be valued as an important team member. All of sudden that changed. No effort was enough. No result was good. There was criticism without direction. It was clear they were going to degrade my professional status and my professional value until they could fire me (after more than 20 years with the company). Company officials lied. I found communications in my personnel folder that demonstrated how they were going to fire me. The separation was brutal and it was devastating.

I know what you're going through. Hurting yourself won't hurt Follett or the people there who hurt you. It will only hurt those who care about you.

It's time to rebuild and put this crap hole behind you.

I'm sorry and I want you to know there are people who left Follett that care about how you feel. If you are having thoughts about suicide, please reach out to someone - a sibling, parent, friend, minister. You are valued as a person. Follett doesn't define who you are, it was just a small part of what defines you. It is hard to not feel bad about losing a job, but you can overcome this. I strongly encourage you to reach out and talk to someone, anyone, if you are having these thoughts.
