Just received an email from HR that the officer team is finalizing numbers for a required layoff by the end of this year. This will be a company-wide initiative to reduce redundant positions as well as merge the responsibilities of two positions in to one. I haven't heard exact numbers yet but it appears there's a goal of 10-15% reduction in workforce.

I work in the new TFS org and the outside techs and Central Office techs do not have any work!!!
Anyone else just LOVE the Blase email lauding HR accomplishments thus far?
HR is Useless pretty much as mu current supervisor, but what else is new..
I always thought that HR reps handling the surplus were on the last stop to be surplused. They are the laziest, slowest and most disengaged group of people I've ever encountered at att. From the first conference call until you're out the door.
6eta regarding your comment......I can personally attest to the "dumb as XXX" of HR.
I was in that last round of surplus and the few questions I had, HR couldn't answer....they kept passing the buck like usual. We were given a name on our surplus letter of HR person that would be our point of contact.....woman was clueless. I joked with one of my coworkers that didn't get canned that I should contract my services/knowledge on navigating being surplused out for future people to be surplused.
I've worked in many different corporations and I have to say the HR at AT&T is totally worthless and the most inept.
I heard that the HR staff assigned to the surplus employees last quarter were dumb as a xxx, that may explain the comment, "must bea she"
Hmmm. Relax is what has been posted by someone who identifies as an HR manager. Nothing to see here. How often has that line been told and heard before cuts are made. Same line given just before Entertainment group was hit, same line before Bellsouth folks hit multiple times, same line after TFS reorganized. With the amount of work being outsourced and the company's determination to get rid of tenured staff, I'm mentally prepared.
Relax I'm a manager from HR and haven't heard of any more layoffs....Everything is great.
The sand is soft so people can hide their head and say bull to reality. Sadly my group was given notices July 1st and we have 60 days to find jobs or take a severance or retirement.
As for the OP being bull. Did you ever think it may be a managers from HR posting that it's all rumors to calm the people. Why is it people who are laid off never see it coming? ATT wants it that way to stall the backlash.
Are you Randall? It is confirm!!! Funny
I can confirm that this is absolute BS. OP is stirring the pot.
Sadly to many think it is the other group. when hit they go into shock.
Reality is EOY2016 will see big numbers cut. ATT is not moving to cloud services and intends to keep all the current employees. Contractors where possible and off shore where possible.
In another post, an HR person indicated when given numbers nothing including keeping up with training counts.
As one of the posters stated, got to listen closely and read between the lines. Got copied on an email, on the face of it, seems business as usual with one of their initiatives. However, on closer examination it reinforces at least part of what the OP posted. The question, at least in my book, is how far and deep will it go? People can only post generalities , because of consequences, and its up to you to interpret. I've been keeping up with the board since last year and there have been "gold nuggets" of info. Believe or not, it's up to you.
I am OP and I haven't replied until now. I'd copy the email here but I'm sure there would be legal reprocutions. I'm just here posting what I've received believe it or not it doesn't really matter to me. I'm not here to stir anything up or create rumors. This is an email I received. Did it specifically mention the officers? Of course not but it referred to the "Company" so yes it's the officers.
Much of what you say is true. And I'll add that the overwhelming majority of the feature phones subs you mentioned will be gone at the end of the year with the GSM sunset. Not sure why you're taking a shot at me but in reply: I am not worried. The 40% is through 2020 (and now that's even been pushed out behind closed doors). 15%+ is already gone. Most of the other 25% will be made up of retirees and wireline employees who work on older technologies (which I'm not) in addition to redundancies between T and DTV. So while it's unlikely I will be let go, it is always possible. But I'm not worried because T isn't the only company out there. That should be evident by all the posts by former employees who ended up in better situations than they were in at T.
Anyway, as I said the OP (maybe that's you and why you're taking shots) seems sketchy simply because it's unlikely they will cut 10-15% in one shot at the end of the year. It's also unlikely, as stated previously, that HR would send an email to the OP regarding officer actions of any kind, much less force reductions.
Believe it. If you aren't listening to how people talk, you won't pick up on the suttle clues. Like if you are...director supportive vs project supportive. If there are multiple DOS, then your job is being duplicated. Just saying, get ready.
It is all about financial projections, AT&T lives for "Wall Street", Investors can't expect AT&T's margins to continue to improve , we will continue to lose postpaid subscribers and add prepaid customers, T has no choice, For one, AT&T has only about 6.5 million feature-phone subscribers left. If it continues to convert or lose them at its current rate, they'll be gone in about two years. More importantly, AT&T has some big fixed costs to maintain and grow its wireless network. If revenue continues to decline, which it will, those fixed costs will start to eat into the company's margins big time, and guess where the many is coming from? ... you among other "things", this company will get rid 40% of us, I am sure you are not worried since you are a "Real contributor"
Some of you are talking about 1 group and you may be right, but OP said company wide 10-15%. That's the part that seems sketchy.
There may be a basis for this. A lot of occupational under the new TFS fall under a contract which is up next year. This would be the company's way of weakening the unions bargaining position.
The TFS restructuring is causing many to rebook at their positions. The writing was on the wall when the TFS organization was announced. Workload is down, contractors are up and many employees at or near retirement eligibility. Don't think it's a rumor.
I believe it. Some surplus is driven by leadership others are HR events soley.
SDA/BSIM merging back as TFS group Aug1 with too many people for the workload we have. Sounds like a surplus to me....
OMG....we have to wait to the EOY 2016. The global teams I'm part of are collectively praying for a past EPO - Feb. 2015 was the last - in next two months. ahhhh....the thought of another 5 months. Yikes
Very unlikely
