Well isn't that impressive? Sounds like a bunch of bullshit to me. The Art of War was written in the 5th century BC and is still read and studied today. Do you think anyone will know or care about Lean Six Sigma in even 100 years?

This is what we pay top management to do? They should have read Sun Tzu or Lao Tzu and get some real Asian philosophy instead of all this bullshit pseudo-asian crap.

Actually Lean Six Sigma (Verizon calls it VLSS) is a set of tools developed to reduce the waste associated with the flow of materials and information in a process from beginning to end. The goal of Lean is to identify and eliminate non-essential and non-value added steps in the business process in order to streamline production, improve quality and gain customer loyalty.
That being said, Verizon does not use Lean as it was intended... They used it to discover areas to cut costs without fixing processes, improving quality or gaining customer loyalty. I trained for Lean at an University that had no association with Verizon and was disgusted at how Verizon was using it. I am no longer associated with VLSS

Agreed. Such a waste of time. This one chick in my office is VLSS. I see her at her desk maybe twice a year. I guess the rest of the time she is working on one of her "projects". No one knows what these people do seriously...

Usually it's a 3 year lifecycle and that has already passed. Why are they still hanging around? There's nothing else to cut.
